Probably both.
Oh nice.
I have had reasonable success with jam sponge in the slow cooker. Trouble is I tend to eat it all.
Obviously not quite as moist as Mum’s or yours looks to be.
Do you have a steaming muslin. We had two at home one for sweet and the other for steak and kidney.
No - I just steamed it in a Pyrex bowl covered with loose fitting buttered foil
Sponge desserts always seem to be on a whim, so it’s the microwave variety here. Adaptable, so syrup, jam, sultana, chocolate or ginger as dearly beloved requests.
If it is a Sunday roast , I usually do the same, with an apple gravy , if I can , it’s a free range pork chop (and you can taste the difference) avoiding supermarket chops and always buying from one of three local butchers
Often washed down with a glass of cider and er some calvados or Somerset cider brandy , usually whist watching the late afternoon match
From my post in August
Potatoes are home grown, the beans home grown, the brambles are picked from brambles that intrude into the garden, and the apples from a box on a neighbour’s wall with a message please take. The sweet potato shop bought, my attempts at growing them have not been successful even in my greenhouse
In the oven for the next couple of hours, Dave’s world famous pork, chorizo and butter bean stew.
Erm, I lied … … … actually, it’s Jay Rayner’s world famous pork, chorizo and butter bean stew … … … the picture’s his as well.
Tastes bloody great.
That photo just increased my cholesterol.
Just Googled that looks and sounds delicious. Might give that a try when the weather cools down a bit here. Cheers.
Especially noteworthy are the references to the “Chef’s prerogative” chorizo, without which it doesn’t taste half as nice … … … well, as far as the chef is concerned anyway.
It’s a regular, Chez Dave, and it does taste great.
How much squirrel do you use? It can be a tricky balance …
I echo Ptp, that’s my kind of dish. Looks excellent, I’m gonna look it up.
Edit: I just found it on google and added the recipe to my favourites. Thanks for that, Dave.
Dave
Slow cooker beef stew and dumplings. Purple sprouting broccoli.
Started at 10 am when the will was with me.
Air fried the dumplings for 10 minutes to crisp them up.
Farmhouse style dumpling mix. So much palm fat in it you must imagine an Indonesian farmhouse. Sorry Orang-u- Tangs promise to do better.
Bet Mum was smiling down on me. She taught me well.
I’ve prepared this yesterday for the weekend.
Peas, leak, onion, carrot, celeriac, bacon and salt. That’s all and incredibly healthy, cheap and tasteful. Healthy food can be cheap!
Is this a Dutch meal?
Certainly. Erwtensoep or Snert. Typical winter food.
Resembles quite a lot of our traditional Thursday meal here (pea soup + pancakes eaten mostly as lunch though)
