I asked it why Naim Audio was one of the best at producing sound.

What it has ‘learned’ from Naim’s website……
What did you expect?
You could try asking it what the relationship is now between Naim and Vervent if any…… :face_with_open_eyes_and_hand_over_mouth:

I wasn’t expecting anything profound. Just interested to see how it would present the information.

Idle curiosity, really.

I always ask Chat GPT to state its sources when it provides a narrative… it can sometimes put a sense of perspective and be entertaining … certainly when it starts stating falsehoods or questionable responses… after all it is combining what it has trawled through on the web. It also makes you smile how it is programmed to balance out more subjective or controversial responses.
Critically, when you often delve deep down, it loops out and recommends you liaise with a specialist… :grinning:
I agree Chat GPT is great for idle curiosity… and help with short cut look ups. I find it helpful when producing glossaries in documents. :grinning:
The other thing I notice, there can be quite a delay of many many months before it incorporate new developments and legislatuon

As a bit of fun … I challenged ChatGPT on point 7 and it modified its response

Naim Audio, a British company renowned for its high-end audio equipment, primarily assembles its products in the UK, particularly at its headquarters in Salisbury, England. However, some components or specific products in the Naim lineup may be manufactured or assembled in China.

Historically, Naim’s Mu-so and Mu-so Qb wireless speaker systems have been known to be assembled in China. These products are part of Naim’s more accessible, lifestyle-oriented range, as opposed to their high-end separates like amplifiers and streamers, which are generally assembled in the UK.

Naim ensures that all of their products, regardless of where they are assembled, meet the company’s stringent quality standards. If you are looking for specific information on a product not mentioned here, checking the packaging, product manual, or contacting Naim directly might provide more precise details.

I then asked for the sources … and it looped out quickly

I don’t have the capability to browse the internet in real-time or retrieve live sources for specific information right now. However, the information I provided is based on general knowledge of Naim Audio’s production practices as of my last update.

For the most up-to-date details or confirmation on where specific Naim products are assembled, you could check directly with Naim Audio’s official website, product manuals, or reach out to their customer support team. Additionally, audio forums and retailer websites that specialize in high-end audio equipment may offer further insights and discussion on the topic.

So it looks like ChatGPT might use this forum as a source … God help it :joy:

We’re all doomed if everyone starts using this AI BS as a source of truth.

Exactly… and further it seems it might use this forum as one of it sources……
But to be fair to Chat GPT they advise against using it as a source of definitive fact.

We could try putting it into an endless loop until it has a meltdown :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

When I first used ChatGPT I tested it’s ‘even-handedness’ by asking the question ‘Why might Led Zeppelin be considered the greatest rock band of all time, despite plagiarising earlier blues musicians work?’

An opinion is not something one expects from ChatGPT. The blandness of the response was quite something.

Which goes to show it’s not actually intelligent per se

Other than marketing departments and the popular media, I don’t think anyone actually believes these software programmes are intelligent. They use very interesting and exceedingly clever algorithms, and can even self adapt, and can sift and analyze mind blowing amounts of content… but not I think intelligence…
But then we get into … what is intelligence anyway - and looking around some in the world I do start to wonder….

It’s fun… think of any significant rock band and ChatGPT suggests it might be the greatest rock band…

Whether Pink Floyd is the greatest rock band of all time is a matter of personal opinion, but they are certainly one of the most influential and revered bands in rock history. Here’s why some might consider Pink Floyd the greatest rock band:

1. Musical Innovation and Experimentation

  • Pioneering Sound: Pink Floyd was at the forefront of progressive rock, pushing the boundaries of what rock music could be. Their use of elaborate soundscapes, conceptual albums, and innovative studio techniques set them apart.
  • Conceptual Albums: Albums like The Dark Side of the Moon and The Wall are masterpieces of storytelling, weaving complex themes with intricate musical compositions. These albums have become cultural touchstones.
  • Experimental Approach: Pink Floyd wasn’t afraid to experiment with sound, using synthesizers, tape loops, and unconventional instruments. Their music often defied traditional rock structures, creating a unique and immersive experience.

2. Cultural and Artistic Impact

  • Cultural Influence: Pink Floyd’s music often dealt with deep and existential themes like alienation, madness, and the human condition, resonating with generations of listeners. Their work is often cited as an exploration of the psyche, making them more than just a rock band—they became a cultural phenomenon.
  • Iconic Imagery: The band’s visual identity, including the iconic prism on The Dark Side of the Moon album cover and the animations in The Wall, contributed to their legendary status. Their album art and live shows were as innovative and influential as their music.
  • Enduring Popularity: Despite forming in the 1960s, Pink Floyd’s music continues to be discovered by new generations. Their albums are frequently ranked among the greatest of all time, and their influence is evident in numerous bands that followed.

3. Live Performances

  • Theatrical Concerts: Pink Floyd redefined the live concert experience with elaborate stage designs, light shows, and visual effects. Their performances of The Wall involved massive props and visuals, making their shows a multisensory experience.
  • Connection with Audiences: Even with their often introspective and complex music, Pink Floyd managed to connect with large audiences, filling arenas and stadiums around the world.

4. Musicianship and Band Chemistry

  • Innovative Musicians: Each member of Pink Floyd contributed to their unique sound. David Gilmour’s guitar work, Richard Wright’s keyboard textures, Nick Mason’s drumming, and Roger Waters’ bass lines and conceptual songwriting were all integral to their music.
  • Collaboration and Tension: While the band’s internal conflicts, particularly between Roger Waters and the other members, are well-documented, these tensions often fueled their creativity and led to some of their most iconic works.

5. Critical and Commercial Success

  • Critical Acclaim: Pink Floyd’s albums have received widespread critical acclaim. The Dark Side of the Moon is often cited as one of the greatest albums ever made, and The Wall is considered a rock opera masterpiece.
  • Commercial Success: Pink Floyd’s albums have sold over 250 million copies worldwide, making them one of the best-selling music artists of all time. Their enduring commercial success is a testament to their wide appeal.

6. Legacy

  • Long-Lasting Influence: Pink Floyd’s influence extends beyond rock music into art, film, and even philosophy. Their exploration of sound, concept, and visual art has inspired countless artists across various mediums.
  • Timeless Music: Their music remains relevant and continues to be celebrated. Pink Floyd’s ability to create timeless music that resonates with people on a deep level is one of the reasons they are considered one of the greatest rock bands.

Conclusion

Pink Floyd’s blend of musical innovation, conceptual depth, cultural impact, and artistic vision makes them a strong candidate for the title of the greatest rock band of all time. While opinions on the greatest band may vary, Pink Floyd’s contribution to rock music and their lasting legacy make them one of the most important and influential bands in history.

They are not intelligent, they are LLM’s. No artificial general intelligence exists at present. In any case, natural stupidity remains a far greater threat than artificial intelligence

absolutely

It might be said though, that the good application of intelligence requires conscience guidance by ethics and morality.

Indeed “stupidity” might be considered an ableist view, and that some with lower intelligence might act with better morality than some with higher intelligence :sunglasses:

The use of the phrase ‘natural stupidity’ is simply a joke based on being the antithesis to ‘artificial intelligence’ and is nothing to do with any learning disability. It means the ability of alleged clever people such as politicians to do remarkably stupid things

Yes, I thought that was your use thanks. It was really the wider point of intelligence versus morality, which we obviously agree on, and is where I think the risk of AI lies.

Of course - but also vice versa.
