Marcin Wasilewski Trio - Cadogan Hall, London, Friday 15th November. First time seeing this trio and well worth the wait. Really enjoyed this, beautiful piano playing.

Elina Duni and Rob Luft - Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London, Sunday 17th November. Stunning vocals from Elina complimented by the outstanding guitar of Rob. These two are fantastic together, would definitely see them again.

Joe Lovano’s Trio Tapestry - Queen Elizabeth Hall, Southbank Centre, London, Sunday 17th November. I know Joe is something of a legend in the jazz world, but I struggled with this one. Just found it rather disjointed and challenging - maybe on another day I might have enjoyed it, just wasn’t in the mood I think.

Jan Garbarek Group - Royal Festival Hall, Southbank Centre, London, Sunday 17th November. I have been waiting to see Jan live for a long time and thoroughly enjoyed this one. The only issue for me was that at times it seemed more like the Trilok Gurtu (percussionist) show, such was the amount of time he had for his solo performances. A fabulous tight band though, and a privilege to hear the gorgeous tones of that saxophone playing.

Marillion With Friends From The Orchestra - Royal Albert Hall, London, Monday 18th November. The conclusion to our musical weekend in London and it finished with quite a bang! Great show as always from these guys and with the lovely addition of a string quartet, French horn and flute. The epic opening song Gaza was the standout for me but the whole show had the crowd singing, clapping and on their feet.

Just got back home late afternoon, having a night off before Antonio Forcione’s AKA Trio at Liverpool Philharmonic tomorrow night (got a spare ticket going free if anyone wants it, Mrs markah needs a break!).

…one heck of a week and the 18th must have been a very busy day! Fantastic group of musicians you did get to see/hear perform in a short space of time. Love to take you up on that free ticket but can not cross the 4,781 air miles in time for the show!

Richard Dawson at Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester last night. Very good indeed. He is quirky but engaging. Loved it and just bought new CD 2020. If you don’t know him think Divine Comedy crossed with John Shuttleworth in terms of lyrics and vocal style. This time with drums and bass but he did one without instruments in true folky style.

I saw them the next day in Manchester. We where considering going to the Liverpool gig, but the 6.30pm start put us off.

Excellent performance, really enjoyed it even though I hadn’t heard half of the songs before. Agree with your comment about the acoustic set, there’s something special about a performer with an acoustic guitar when the performer is special. Todd Rundgren is a classic example, put him on stage with an acoustic guitar; he is very, very special.

There was a bizarre incident when Sam Beam was heckled for not talking clearly enough, the heckler couldn’t understand what he was saying between songs. . I did wonder if any of the forum grammar police where also present.

@grahamrussell, I’ve just got home from seeing Squeeze at the Villa Marina, Douglas, Isle of Man on the last night of their tour. They were superb and you were right about them being really tight.

Also, they got the sound right. You could hear what Difford and Tilbrook were singing and could even follow the bass riffs!

Glad you had a great night. I guess they’ve had a few years to learn the tunes

Attended two fantastic sets at the Purcell Rooms last night with my 12 year old daughter. The first was from the Elliot Galvin Trio (Elliot Galvin on piano, Tom McCredie on double bass and drummer Corrie Dck). They ran through their Modern Times album. A very enjoyable and challenging set with great chemistry between the trio. The second was from the lovely Lura Jurd and her trio (Laura Jurd trumpet, Ruth Goller electric bass, Corrie Dck drums). Really enjoyed this, and Laura was great, but the chemistry was not as tip top. My daughter was thoroughly absorbed and loved the experience.

Saw this fellow perform last Friday evening here in Boston. I’d never seen him live before, and it was a great show and a great experience.

We had Maroon Town at Chidham Village Hall tonight. They are a London Band playing ska, reggae, a bit of rap and soul, and were simply brilliant. Lovely people. Playing in a village hall where there are no street lights was rather different to their usual venues but they thoroughly enjoyed it.

Last Saturday, Art Ensemble of Chicago at The Barbican.
Last time I saw them was at the Roundhouse, a good 30-odd years ago. They were great then and are great now, although sadly Lester, Malachi and Joseph are no longer on this planet.

This concert was the ‘big band’ commemorative outfit. Roscoe Mitchell is/was always a delightful front man and leader (his clarinet playing is as masterful as ever) and Don Moye on drums/percussion can, as ever, lay it down! Two superb musicians with a great band behind them. Too many highlights to mention: they were SUPERB. I loved it so much, the next day I ordered the 4 LP box set ’ We Are On The Edge’…hell, I would’ve bought it anyway, but with my Barbican ticket it will be a lovely memento of a marvellous evening.
