I have recently been introduced to Gramophone magazine and am learning and enjoying this magazine. I have taken out a 12-month subscription.
As one does with searching through Google I stumbled on a magazine called BBC Music Magazine. I am curious: if I were to purchase just one subscription, which should I go for, please?
I see Google is once again my friend. I will read the online reviews Gramophone vs BBC Music Magazine. However, I will still be very much interested in replies to my NAIM Forum Friends.
Hi Mitch,
You will see with your Gramophone subscription that it takes a deep approach to classical music. The BBC magazine includes some more popular articles. I don’t subscribe to either, but buy copies of either from time to time. Not everyone wants the deep dive into classical music, but I’ve learned more from Gramophone. Access to the digital archive is especially valuable. But you have your subscription, so you will be able to form your own opinion as you read and listen. Stokie
I subscribe to Gramophone and have done so for maybe ten years. I cancelled the BBC Music magazine before it even got to the end of the free trial period, I found it so poor.
I won’t provide a link because Forum rules probably won’t let me, but you could google Presto Classical which is a supplier of CDs, LPs and downloads in UK. There is also Presto Jazz. They provide a curated approach to new releases and you can see the monthly recommendations from both magazines for free on Presto’s website and listen to short excerpts for free too.
