What if……

Here’s a fun question to debate down the pub….what if, by the quirk of some temporal anomaly, Mozart was transported to 2026, what 10-15 pieces of music would you play to him to show the development of music through the 19th, 20th and 21st centuries…..

Very interesting “what if” pub talk.
All those classical composers had in their mind the classical musical instruments and the specific sound they produce.
I would give them a Moog and a Roland 700 and see where these sounds take their genius minds.
I know radical!!!

I would leave the music and give him a device to look through all the history and developments in Science, Arts and Cultures.
Also to recommend watch Bill and Ted’s Excellent Adventure.

I guess anything derivative from Mozart is out.

I’ll get my hat.

In a similar vein, Isaac Asimov wrote a short story, based in a university where the physics professor and the literature professor are talking over drinks. The physics professor says that they’ve invented time travel and brought Shakespeare to the 20th century. And then enrolled him on the literature prof’s “Shakespeare” course. The literature prof. remembers seeing a strange person at the back, and asks, “So what happened to him?”.

“We had to send him back. Poor chap, he was distraught…….. You flunked him!”

Start easy with Beethoven

Then skip most of the next few centuries. So show him

Dvorak

Tchaikovsky

Then the early 20th century

Bartok Stravinsky Shostokovich Schoenberg

Cage Stockhausen Feldman

–-

Then introduce folk music

Beatles

Pink Floyd

Zeppelin

Kraftwerk

Jazz

–-

He will probably need to lie down.

Play him some Anaal Nathrakh. I reckon he’d get a kick out of it.

The Eagles and Steely Dan were studio stable mates although musically worlds apart, but under the same management.

What if Irving “Satan” Azoff brokered a peace deal between Don Henley and Don Felder, and then set up a, once ever only, collaboration for the 2 of them with Donald Fagen, and some of the best of the Dan’s session musicians? You can imagine it, Henley at the drum kit, Fagen “no Don you’ve got to get beyond 4/4, meet Steve Gadd who will show you 13/8”! The studio would surely combust there and then!

Play him Tubular Bells

Sunn O )))

Don Henley: “The Purdey what?”
