Delia, oh, Delia
Delia all my life
If I hadn’t have shot poor Delia
I’d a had her for my wife

Somewhere . Runrig.
Dedicated to Laurel Clark. the astronaut who was on the space shuttle Columbia that blew up.
She had taken a Runrig Cd with her. It was found in field intact and is now in a museum in Glasgow.

Somewhere on the arc of ages
We are born, we cry
On this spinning orb of wonder
We live, we die
Still the moon and the stars will shine
When we’ve both had our time

Somewhere in the dark I’ll find you
Somewhere in the light, I’ll meet you there
Where immortal souls collide
Somewhere out there

Can’t bear to leave this path of years
And the joys that it unfolds
Can all this just be ground to dust
Without meaning, resolve, untold
This love is gold, can’t let it go
It’s for all of time

Somewhere in the dark I’ll find you
Somewhere in the light, I’ll meet you there
Where immortal souls collide
Somewhere out there
Somewhere out there

A seasoned witch could call you from the depths of your disgrace,
And rearrange your liver to the solid mental grace,
And achieve it all with music that came quickly from afar,
Then taste the fruit of man recorded losing all against the hour…

My rather pathetic attempt at humour. Sorry.

My heart was just an open sore
Which you picked at
Till it was raw

A lovely song that. And this Runrig classic, Hearts of Olden Glory:-

There’s thunder clouds round the hometown bay, as I walk out in the rain
Through the sepia showers and the photoflood days

I caught a fleeting glimpse of life and though the water’s black as night
The colours of Scotland leave you young inside

For me the sadest opening lines are from the song Jealous of the Angels:

I didn’t know today would be our last
Or that I’d have to say goodbye to you so fast
I’m so numb, I can’t feel anymore
Prayin’ you’d just walk back through that door…

Ring them bells, ye heathen
From the city that dreams
Ring them bells from the sanctuaries
Cross the valleys and streams
For they’re deep and they’re wide
And the world’s on its side
And time is running backwards
And so is the bride

I will pack up my pretty dresses
I will box up my high heeled shoes
A sparkling ring for every finger
I’ll put away and hide from view.

Coats of boucle, jacquard and cashmere
Cartouche and tweed, all silver shot
And everything that could remind you
Of how easy I was not.

I can’t post the actual lyrics, but the first line in Randy Newman’s Rednecks from his 1974 masterpiece, Good Old Boys.
