Picked this new Bluray release up in the Music Shop this week.
Originally had this concert on VHS Tape so good to get a remastered and better video and audio quality version.
Newly remixed Hi-Res Stereo and 5.1 Box Set arrived from the USA.
I have the CD Concert version so will be good to see how it compares, but much more music on the BluRay Discs plus the 5.1.
Another classic album released in Dolby ATMOS plus Hi-Res Stereo.
SDE in the UK specialise in these classic album re-releases.
Picked up this new release CD/BluRay Box Set up from the Music Shop this week. The BluRay has LPCM audio track so really good CD level sound quality.
The set list has a lot of not normally played songs so its really good and unusual for the Stones, which I assume is the purpose of releasing this small venue concert.
I like the variation to Beast of Burden where Mick changes the lyrics to Beast of Barden.
Two days ago I sat down and watched the DVD which came with “Apolyptica Plays Metallica Live”. Excellent. I’ll see if ‘the boss’ wants to come with me to see them at the Albert Hall in September.
Amazing the sounds they get with just cellos and drums.
The CD/LP set was an impulse buy last week - as I had only ever heard of them via a soundtrack credit on IMD.
Picked this up from the 2nd Hand Record Shop.
2 CD/BluRay Box Set with 4K Restoration of the Video and Hi-Res Stereo and 5.1 with the Jeff Beck Guest Appearance included.
I have the 30th Anniversary DVD Version, so this is much better.
The neighbours were out last night so i couldn’t resist watching this. It always brings me to tears for a number of very personal reasons, not the least of which was that i was there when it was recorded. This for most people that were there is one of those gigs that they will never ever forget.
New Box Set arrived this week.
Dolby ATMOS and Hi-Res Stereo and the original Quad Mix on the BluRay Disc plus two concerts on 2 of the 4 CDs.
Bought but not yet watched .
Not sure when the ROH will be presenting this in their new Ring cycle. Saw Das Rheingold at the cinema last year, completely bonkers but very enjoyable
Coming soon but not sure if I’ll purchase it. Every time I try to listen to this album I give up before the end. Maybe a Dolby Atmos version would hold my interest.
I have the 2018 Remix with Hi-Res Stereo and Hi-Res 5.1 and its very good.
I dont need the ATMOS version as I only have 5.1 in my main system and not a full ATMOS speaker set up.
Somehow Dave with all this mining of their back catalogue , especially things like Animals, the phrase flogging a dead horse springs to mind
I hope you don’t mind me saying that
Ian
No Ian2001, I don’t mind you saying and I do tend to agree with you. There are only a certain amount of remasters etc. that we need.
I don’t have a separate Dolby Atmos setup, I don’t have the room for all the speakers etc. and the music I have heard in this format just doesn’t sound right, so I won’t be bothering. Besides I’ve tried listening to this album again today and I just don’t like it.
Now if it were Threshold of a Dream by the Moody Blues I might think again. I’d love to hear the first track of that in Dolby Atmos.
When I first got the Animals 2018 Remix about 2 years ago now I primarily bought it for the HiRes Stereo.
I have a large collection of Hi-Res BluRay Discs and have always much preferred the Hi-Res stereo over the Hi-Res 5.1 and more recently ATMOS sound tracks (although I only have 5.1 speakers so the AV Amp down-mixes the ATMOS to 5.1 connected speakers).
However, when I first played Animals in 5.1 I thought my AV set up had gone faulty or I had a defective disc because there was very little sound out of the centre speaker or subwoofer and not too much more out of the rear speakers with most sound coming out of the front left and right speakers.
I even recalibrated my AV Amp speaker set up to make sure all was working correctly and tested another 5.1 music BluRay to ensure all was working OK, which it was, so it was how the Animals 5.1 had been mixed.
As usual with 5.1 music I was not too impressed and it reinforced my preference for Hi-Res stereo.
Appreciate, that at the end of the day you have to really like the music to invest in Hi-Res versions which Ive done since 2012 when Pure Audio BluRay Discs first came out and continue to look forward to new Hi-Res disc releases which are still happening thankfully.
Tidal Hi-Res, originally MQA and now also FLAC certainly give the BluRay discs a run for their money, but the discs still just out perform the internet streaming sound quality wise in my system but not really much in it and Im probably being a bit over critical.
Hi-Res internet streaming has come a long way in the last few years.
Eric Clapton The Definative 24 Nights Box Set arrived in the post today.
Brings back the memories of a great day out in London in February 1991 - All day at Alexandra Palace at the Motorcycle Road Race and Superbike Show, Dinner at the Hard Rock Cafe and the 24 Nights Rock Set Concert at the Royal Albert Hall in the evening.
I have the original DVD release of 24 Nights, so this is a brilliant enhancement of the best from all the shows from 1990 and 1991 with so much more music with the concerts now also on BluRay.
Eric Clapton is my favourite solo artist and I have one of the limited edition album cover artwork signed by Eric and Sir Peter Blake of 24 Nights as it is so special for me with the great memories.
Oops - wrong thread. Sorry.
