What Network Am I On?

This is almost certainly a dumb question, but one I need to ask anyway!
My son has just moved flat. His Muso is wired to the network by an ethernet cable. His phone is connected to the wifi but doesn’t see the Muso. I’m guessing that the network names are different - the wifi has two with 2.4 and 5 in the title. How can he check the name of the wired network? Via the router set-up, or is there any alternative?

The WiFi settings on the phone will say which network the phone is attached to, ie which SSID is selected.
The Muso is wired, so network name is irrelevant.SSID doesn’t apply to wired setups.

The wired network doesn’t have a ‘name’ as such; the two wifi SSIDs (‘names’) are likely the same network (eg 192168.88.xxx), but it’s possible the wired isn’t if (eg) someone has plugged in their own wifi access point to the existing isp-supplied modem/router.

I’d trace the wiring if you can and see what’s plugged in to what box…

Edit - too slow - crossed with @Neilb1906 's reply.

You could always connect the Muso to the wifi…

Do the flats share a common internet network or has he got a standalone installation,?

Is the muso defo on the internet, did he have a fixed IP on the muso from his last place?

Download ‘Net Analyser’ to your phone, when on his network run it and see what shows up.

Thanks, folks.
I’m pretty sure the issue is the phone and Muso are on different networks, but it’s figuring this out. I’ve suggested he tries the Muso on wifi - hopefully I’ll hear about that tonight.
I think it’s a stand-alone installation, but I’ll get him to check.

Ah - diagnostics three steps removed!

@Neilb1906 's question is important - if it’s (say) student flats and a common ‘guest’ network, it’s possible/likely that all connections are ‘private’ and no device will be able to see any other, even though they can all see the ‘internet’.

I’ll suggest Net Analyzer to him too, and get him to confirm it’s on the internet.
It’s a private flat, and it sounds like the muso is connected to a wall ‘socket’ so that might make it harder to trace where it goes.
This is in Sweden too, so added complexity

Is it actually ethernet? It might not go anywhere…

I think he tried his Macbook in that socket. He says it works (but that some of the others don’t).
He’s apparently just gone off on holiday so no updates for a week by the sound of it.

We’ll check back in a week then…
