What’s coming at Munich?

You are reading too much I fear…:joy:
I just replied to someone who didn’t knew the beginning date of Munich show.
Personally I am not really waiting, but would be happy if Naim produces a transport without dac.

It will almost certainly be about ‘new’ Focal and ‘old’ Naim. Who has the deepest pockets? Kaput :bomb:

I will be interested to hear all about such a system if it exists from others on here since I’m pretty sure it would be out of my price range. Unfortunately such a product probably wouldn’t lead to any nd5xs2 cancellations thus reducing my wait time :joy:

Ahem solstice ahem

That would be good but I’d also like a true ndac successor either way it would give everyone more options.

Really - who cares about Munich?
I certainly don’t, but… I’m not the audiophile type you’re looking for…move along.

I honestly think that is a too small market for Naim to develop and launch such a product …

Unlikely until they produce a separate DAC to pair it with. They are not here to promote Chord.

I’m just speculating. If I was the head of Focal/Naim I’d be looking to pair up both lines, create synergy. I’d have to imagine there’s lots of customers who want a 3 box high-end solution. Of course they would still offer amps and preamps. When I saw the balanced XLR outs on the Atom HE I saw the future… Guess we’ll see if my crystal ball is accurate?

See at how many users here who have bought an Nd5xs2 or Ndx2 to use only as a transport.
But maybe Naim forum is not representative of the world market. So you may be right.

Hmm something odd going on with this thread, it vanished and has now reappeared😉

Probably got abducted as @NoNaim

Just some flags last night that needed attending to. It was late so in such circumstances I usually quarantine a thread until I have some time to review.

I think everyone will be unhappy.

Understood! Not long now😁

Exactly @frenchrooster - I think the Forum members only represent a very small group of Naim users …

A naim streaming transport would be a niche product for sure. I’d love it to happen (soon, we’re in the market!), but given naim don’t sell a DAC there is likely zero chance, as it would simply generate DAC business for competitors.

Going by pictures of the innards of the ND5XS2/NDX2 I don’t think the current generation streaming board seems to lend itself to a transport either. As far as I can tell the digital gubbins and DAC are on the same board. On the NDX2 wouldn’t that that mean the 10V (DAC) and 15V (digital) feeds from the XPSDR are used there, with the 23V feed for analogue board.

So if a transport was simply the current streaming board in an ND5XS2 case, the DAC would be unused and potentially the board could survive on a 15V power feed? So not suitable for PSU upgrades like HICAP (24V) and would only use 1/3 of an XPSDR. Just doesn’t make economic sense.

We’ve come round to thinking that the ND5XS2 with the same streaming board as the NDX2 will be enough for us into nDAC as a transport. This is based on our recent experience with a raspberry PI + good quality hat into nDAC, which sounds fabulous.

A change of lightbulb colour behind the logo from green to white. Upgrade to be available for about 10 years direct from Naim, christened the CBR (Colour Bulb Replacement).

I’ll get my coat!!

The CBR upgrade to replace the DR upgrade, and at half the price - a bargain!

Or an integrated pre-amp DAC.
