I know a close friend that has them. I had informed him about Uniti products and different speaker options but he just wanted something good quality and easy to live with.
He’s happy, they don’t need a special rack or fancy cables and sound pretty good to be fair.
You could get a power supply to add to the pile of boxes or…
How are you defining irrelevant here. I’ve had positive experiences with comparable brands that if I were in a position to want to purchase something would not see me putting Naim at the top of my list.
It’s also fair to say I own and enjoy owning, multiple Naim and Focal products and have done for decades.
I also own better kit (for my needs and intended use) from other brands.
Well it was inevitably an underwhelming announcement. Nice looking Star and speakers would probably please SHMBO and which I am sure perform well / suit a modern environment.
For that reason, I will not be showing her……just in case she gets any ideas of dispensing with those irksome black boxes!
No doubt there are more exciting developments on the horizon, but just think of how much money you are going to save through lack of temptation.
The world has not ended. Back to enjoying the music then !
I’d be willing to bet that by some margin the Star is the lowest volume product shipping from the current Uniti Range.
Most people either settle on an Atom or stretch to the more capable Nova.
One way of clearing a CD transport and fascia inventory I guess.
I suspect what’s happening is that Naim will introduce a new series to ultimately replace the current classic line, this will include the ‘372’ in some guise and will probably complement the Solstice, there will probably be ‘eco’ power supply solutions too. No launch will take place until such time that supply chains are sorted or sufficient stockpiles of components are met - whenever that is! This would explain the lack to date of a ‘372’ in the current classic livery. All speculation of course but it’s where my money is.
Mine too - more ‘big bang’ in terms of a new range, in whatever packaging (that’s streaming et al) not cardboard.
I suspect Naim are a bit of an oil tanker in all this, what with their broad range of existing products and with a material order book to keep on-side/deliver out. The smaller, more nimble, players can introduce new kit. Often, as I understand things, the latter operate with sometimes lengthy ‘build to order’ timelines anyway.
Naim’s news announcement is a little disappointing, especially for those expecting the 272 replacement, but hardly surprising given the current waiting list for new builds of the Classic / Uniti line up.
Alternatively, from Micheal Fremer’s Instagram feed, there are quite a few new and interesting turntables of all shapes and sizes…
Not nearly to the same degree. Luxman, who distribute Focal in Japan, have a section on their site explaining that supply chain issues and inflation are disproportionately affecting makers in the US and Europe who have far more dependence on diverse supply chains and China and this is why both prices of Focal have gone up 25% as well as availability being a problem whereas higher end Japanese gear has a far larger proportion of the supply chain for even small components still made domestically and therefore while Focal goes up, most Japanese makers can keep prices flat and backorder to 6 months or less.
The tone was sort of half apologetic for the price increase of Focal and half “foreign brands made their bed and now they are lying in it”.
My sentiments exactly. I will also add that after the recent service and recap that I have no intention to sell because I would probably lose a lot of money that I spent in 2004. I did not buy a Naim streamer (or a Linn for that matter), so you could say that I have no interest (purely from a financial motivation) to spend large amounts of cash on HiFi gear anymore and at the same time accumulate more boxes). I did buy an Auralic which from my perspective was the right decision and allows to scratch the streaming itch. In fact an all in one box solution, I’m very pleased with it
Either I am having some kind of episode or a post appeared with a picture of 3 bearded gents dressed up as german barmaids. It had vanished by the time I had replied, therefore making my post look somewhat odd
