What’s the last movie you saw in the cinema

I was lucky to be working as a booker for a London agency during the mid 70’s and got backstage passes to see Springsteen in 75 at Hammersmith Odeon. I already had Greetings from Asbury Park and the Wild and the Innocent, so was looking forward to seeing him, he was amazing, I saw both shows and was a fan ever since. I was really looking forward to the movie , but just felt a little short changed. It seemed to miss a chance, here was an artist really not knowing what he wanted , but knowing what he thought he wanted, also struggling with his mental health and his inability to hold down a relationship except musical ones and they too were stretched at this time. It really is a very tough subject to get right, and for me it just didn’t get it right. I am sure it will be one of those polarising movies some people will love it for sure. What I would say is go and see it with an open mind and no expectations, which in itself is a difficult task.

I think what you e summarised there is the film version of how he came to Nebraska. On that basis the Zanes book will be a revelation because, as I noted in an earlier post, it absolutely wasn’t a story of “daddy issues and depression”.

Tell us more. I missed it in the cinema.

Just seen it at the cinema tonight. Lovely to look at and a tale well told. A very quick two and a half hours.

Off to see the sort of damned with faint praise “Bugonia” tomorrow morning but if this is still in on in any of my local cinemas then I’ll be booking in asap as it was on my list.

Yeah but, you know, it’s Emma Stone…

Thought never crossed my mind  .

Bugonia started slow and I totally get the criticisms if it but I really enjoyed it.

Saw it last night with a beer and a large bucket of popcorn. Highly enjoyable.

Will definitely read the book though.

Did any eagle-eye spotters catch what kind of gear Jon Landau had in in his office? Suspect it’s all period correct for the early 80s. I was involved enough in the film that I didn’t catch what either he or Bruce had.

It’s a question that I’d love to ask some of my music heroes “what kind of system do you listen to music on?” I suspect that the responses would be fascinating in both directions.

Just came from the cinema, watched Dracula. Found the angle to the story interesting and was quite ok with the movie (I would anyhow never watch a real horror story). The movie also had some strange parts which in a way didn’t fit, and sometimes was slow. So an ok movie while by far not the most exciting movie.

Just back from seeing this. Very good indeed I thought. Over egged the pudding a bit on occasions perhaps and there is a fair bit of artistic license I suspect, but a great film nonetheless; I really enjoyed it.

Russell Crowe is terrific.

“Deliver Me From Nowhere”. Perhaps rather niche but for fans of The Boss a must.

By the way, not having read the book it is based on, my partner and I thought it an excellent film. Brilliantly acted and directed, prosaic and emotional. Even a bit of gallows humour. At the end of the screening there was quite a long silence before the audience left.

Watched it on Netflix last night (ok home cinema not commercial) and was going to recommend it.

Absolutely loved the 1st third particularly due to the general costumery/sets/props which just raised it to a high for me. Charles Dance and David Bradley were outstanding in their roles as usual as were the main cast.

Just a very enjoyable production. Best movie I’ve seen in years.
