I was having a mooch in Radioland and found this. It’s the first time I’ve come across a WAV radio broadcast. It sounds good too.
Is this the iRadio thing set up by @Kurt? Naim’s own regular lossless radio is FLAC.
Yes it is. It was a bit weird how I found it too. So go to, Asia, North Korea and then tap on, Eclectic and it’s there.
Oh, and I’m not a fan of Kim Jon thingy, I was curious to see what music/propaganda was being played😵💫
Now you mention it, I have a vague recollection that @Stevesky hid one of Kurt’s URLs in N. Korea during a discussion about his iRadio implementation. I guess that’s what you have inadvertently stumbled across.
I spotted that the other day ![]()
Yes, this seems to be my ForwardProxy. It’s still in the air, and I see it’s still used on some Gen 1 devices. The reason why it’s WAV and not FLAC, is because (Ogg)FLAC is not supported on Gen 1 devices, but WAV was. As I wanted a lossless conversion, I wrote something that transcodes the FLAC into a WAV and send it to the device. So, in vTuner, you just pointed to the proxy entry, instead of the original music stream URL. Obviously, by stopping the vTuner agreement, this also closed the door for ForwardProxy, as you can’t define custom radio stations on Gen 1 devices anymore.
I just did the check myself. Indeed, my proxy (hosted in Frankfurt and Phoenix) is listed under the North Korean stations ![]()
And I’m not German, but Belgian. ![]()
