Hello!
Recently I got a new TV - LG OLED65B33LA, which led to a connection problem with my Primare DVD30 player. In short I’m considering purchase of universal disc player: BluRay, DVD, Super Audio CD, CD. Preferably a streamer as well. The player will be connected to the LG TV and Primare SP32 audio-video processor. I have checked the offerings of Oppo 205 and Primare BD32, both models quite old but their prices petty high. The availability of Primare BD32 is quite limited.
So far I’m considering Reavon UBR-X200.
What player do you have in your HT systems?
What would be your advise?
I have one of these, very good picture , SACD but you will have to scour the second hand market.
Sony don’t make much of a fuss about it, but some of their latest Blu Ray players have SACD, I don’t know what to recommend
- About 1000 discs ripped to MKV on a huge NAS running Plex.
- nVidia Shield Pro
I did borrow some UDPs from my dealer but their local streaming capability was not great and frankly none beat the nVidia for pucture quality. Especially impressive is it’s ability to render older DVDs beautifully.
Previously I had a Denon DBT-3313UD which was excellent and even had an audio only HDMI output and if you had a Denon AV amp would even send DTSMA, Dolby TrueHD, and even DSD from SACD over it’s propeietary coaxial digital out (not SPDIF). But it was pre 4K so I let it go.
If you must have SACD playback and DVD-Audio then in addition to Reavon, Magnetar do Universal Disc Players.
I have no DVD audio discs.
So far I’m considering universal disc player. I prefer to avoid any time consuming ripping activities.
Well having tested the Reavon, Sony, Panasonic, and Pioneer, I would say the best bang for buck is the Panasonic, slightly edging out the Sonys at the same price points for picture quality. Technics do a tuned verson of the Panasonic with better transformer, analogue output stage and metal fascia but locating one is like finding a leprechaun.
The Reavon’s were great but expensive and just from a consumer point of view, the Pioneers are of a quality I trust more, having had rebadged Denon (Pioneer) players in the past. Certainly, the laser mech in the Pioneers beats the lot pf them.
McIntosh also do a player, though a bit on the pricey side. Definitely more HiFi.
If the primary focus is movies, I’d go with the Panasonic. If this is also to be you main CD player, the Pioneer.
Ive had a Panasonic 9000 for about 5 years now and its been perfect, plus the upscaling of DVDs and regular Blu-ray discs is excellent.
However, the Panasonics dont do SACD so if thats a main priority for fhe OP, then I agree a second hand Pioneer would be the best choice unless you want a new player.
Maybe second hand OPPO UDP 203
Someone’s bound to have suggested already - Sony UBPX800M2

Could you recommend certain models of Pioneer/Panasonic?
I have some SACDs with great recordings and would like to have this option too. Otherwise I have to keep the current player Primare DVD30 in the system.
Initially Oppo, second hand, was an option. But the prices are higher than the prices as new and the technical condition after 7 or more years is under question.
I was just trying to reconfirm on the Pioneer and Panasonic sites but both are gone now. The Pioneer was their flagship model and recently discontinued when I tested it but stocks were still around. I want to say it was the BDP-LX750 but unsure. It was a similar cost to the Reavon.
Ditto Panasonic. Seems models have churned over a bit in under a year. None of the current models I’m looking at now match what I tested - most aren’t new models but all the ultra low end models.
To be honest I think this makes all my advice moot. They’ve all cleared out models for stuff I’ve not tried.
I saw another option - Magnetar UPD800. There are some comparisons with Reavon UBR-X200. Both units have some nice reviews. And I’m not familiar with either of them😊
So just reading without decision so far.
I have a Cambridge Audio CXUHD which is superb and plays pretty much everything. It also has a really useful function in that it has a HDMI input and twin HDMI outputs so when I was still running a 1080P AV amp with a 4k projector I could plug the Amazon Fire stick into the back of it and send 4k video direct to the projector from both the disc player and the Fire stick.
They’re discontinued now as they had Oppo innards but plenty around secondhand…

Thank you!
I will make a research.
So I spoke with Magnetar/Reavon importer but couldn’t receive an offer. Few days after I paid a visit to the showroom - no Reavon or Magnetar UPD800. Didn’t receive an offer again. At the end I have ordered Sony UBP X800M2B priced 300€ - 1/6 of Magnetar UDP800. Will keep Primare DVD30 for SACD. And Sony will take care about the movies. It will add one more device to the rack but will survive.
