The iPhone might not be the best example… some like the old hifi equipment more, due to different sound signatures. Newer tech brings also a more modern sound.
For me it’s (too) simple math: nds sounds better (for me) than nd555 (3.11) - naim claims nd555 is superior to nd555, so… . God, I would love to hear nd555 again - would I also like nds more, don’t think so, but…
Slight diversion here @blackbird. I’m discussing the Totem sub and speakers on the Totem FB page and there’s a suggestion to use mass loading with the Forest Signatures. Have you tried that?
Ns333 has the same streaming board … build in psu… I am convinced it sounds beautiful. But nd555 is not so old tech, that the possibility of being superior is not so small… if 333 is better and I were naim, I would claim it and stop production of the 555
A Yamamoto HS-1a between Korf arm and mono London Decca Maroon. I think I prefer it to the Korf ceramic one for this cartridge but time will tell if it cures me of the urge to up the mono game further.
Just because a design feature is a few years old doesn’t mean it isn’t worth continuing to use it. You can say that about suspended boards used on higher end Naim boxes, just as you can say it about, for example, the use of the Alps Blue volume pot that Naim still use on the Nait 50 more than 50 years after that was designed.
A JMLC 1175 horn in polished aluminium. Drawn by someone I used to know and another friend. And made by Schmidt & Iversen Mek Verksted AS in Oslo in 2021.
They made a series of ten pairs in polished, glass blown or painted.
Bought this one, used, today and I must say I’m impressed with the buildquality. A solid little thing! First impressions is rather nice with a little more seperation/lower noisefloor. But more listening will be required to leave a full review.
Ordered yesterday and will hopefully receive tomorrow. Reasonably priced for the type of conductors used. Will use from PhoenixNET to 222. High hopes but could be a disaster although have heard the cable needs time to settle. It’s the Neotech NEET-3008 Ethernet cable.
Some Japanese lofi - you stick your iPhone in the slot on the top and the two wooden channels below passively amplify the sound from the iPhone speakers. Surprisingly effective
