What was the last bit of gear you bought in 2025?

Which Siltech cables do you use out of curiosity? I just bought their 100% pure mono-crystal silver Royal Single Crown power cable (along with a Crystal Cable Ultra2 power cable) and the sound is very full-bodied while still being open and clear. It sounds great already despite only having around 25-ish hours on it thus far.

I imagine the upper echelon of the Royal line would compete well with Nordost.

I am feeling the same way. I briefly went back to my SL2s but returned to the IBLs. That’s not to throw shade on the SL2s at all. The IBLs just have this certain “it” factor in spades.

I’ve been using Gamma XC which I previously had , I just thought since the ATC are analog class a/b amps that going better would be better

I only have one Royal Single Crown Network cable in use in my desktop setup. I prefer the more straightforward openness of Crystal cables. Last month, I bought four Da Vinci Ethernet cables to complete the connection from the wall to the router, then to the switch, filter, and streamer in my main setup. It was a major upgrade, so I think I’ll stop buying cables for a while.

After the switch what filter you using? And it cleanse further? What impact it gives ? With and without the filter ?

I have an EE 1 , a gift from AV one.. I am thinking to use it after switch to streamer.. in doing so, I need to get another Valhalla ethernet or a crystal , but am wondering how the impact..

I’m using several Waversa units—Ext-Ref and Ext2—in my network. Dunc is using the Muon Pro, which I have A/B tested against the Ext2 and found to be on the same level, though with different sonic characteristics. Some may prefer the Muon—maybe Dunc can comment on his view. However, in Singapore the Ext2 is half the price of the Muon, so I went with Waversa.

These filters made a big impact on the sound, removing the digital glare. I love it. Surprisingly, one of the listeners told me that he preferred the sound without the filter. That’s why I’m always cautious with my recommendations.

Ok thx .. shall check both out .. and listen to how it contributes.. :folded_hands:t2:

I tried using Valhalla + Crystal Ethernet. The result was nothing like combining the best traits of both worlds. In your case, I guess it will be Crystal diluting what Valhalla brings.

The last purchase of this year: a Russ Andrews DIN-DIN interconnect with -14dB attenuation to use between my ND5XS2 and Nait XS3 (to overcome balance issues at low volume).

@Wusplay bro have you demo magico at your place before ?

I owned the Magico A1 bookshelf speakers for several years. Are you interested in a Magico home demo? Simon keeps Pilium and S Series demos in his shop. For a home trial of heavy speakers that require several people to set up, an almost-confirmed commitment to purchase is usually required.

Dream system. Best room conditions. I‘m always wondering, how big this step is comparing to our living room sound with Magicos A3. And my last purchase was also a speaker cable from Inakustik

Made in Ballrechten-Dottingen. Just a short way from our hometown.

I’m happy to hear this. I did the Superline + Supercap DR thing recently as well. My conclusion, the same. Should have done this as soon as possible. But it was also worth waiting for.

I find this combo to be very impressive! The sound is big now, and dynamics are on another level, compared to what the Superline delivered before when powered from the 282 or HiCap DR. Instruments and voices sound more real and in the room than ever before. I just had a session with the Deep Purple album Burn and I had to play it again and again!

Completely agree snarly, they are just ‘right’ on the end of a Naim system.

What source/amp are you running them with? The ND5 XS2 and Nait 50 in your profile?

I’m not sure whether you were expecting a reply or simply thinking out loud :slightly_smiling_face:

Yes, equipment does make a real difference, absolutely!

That said, it’s worth adding a bit of nuance.

Performance does not increase linearly with price, far from it.

The law of diminishing returns kicks in rather hard once you enter the six-figure price range.

Then there’s the listening room reality. Often ignored, unconsciously or not, but very real nonetheless, and both measurable and audible.

To put it simply, there’s a good parallel to be drawn between cars and hi-fi.

If you want to experience what a Formula 1 car is truly capable of, you need to use it on a racetrack. :racing_car:

On normal roads, you might catch a glimpse of its potential, but it will never be more than that : a glimpse…

Otherwise, your F1 ends up being a very expensive trophy, and you’ll never even get out of second gear…

In short, a bit of acoustic treatment, along with proper placement of speakers and listening position, has a massive impact on sound and is probably the most cost-effective upgrade you can make.

Merry Christmas :christmas_tree: :sparkles:

Hey Ris, been able to do some more listening and it’s a fabulously resolving DAC. For once some of choices of settings are clearly and repeatedly audible.

The NOS toggle, which if applied to have no over sampling or if defeated to apply it is really interesting.

I think I prefer it in NOS mode, where the soundstage isn’t as wide as with OS applied but it has a more palpable intimacy.

It isn’t a case of good v bad, in either setting it’s sounds fabulous, just that it’s consistent in the audible difference in presentation.
