Thanks, I can’t say the naim logo is noticeably less bright. Maybe a tad less bright around the edges. My CD5X has a fading logo though, but that is very obvious.
Trichord make good phono stages and psus. But they badge the ncpsu as for the dino or diablo. Reality is you can use the dino ncpsu on the diablo. And vice versa.I do.
Dealers don’t know they are electrically the same. I had to contact Trichord directly. Who said internally they are the same. You can’t really tell externally, unless you know. Quite a difference in the cost though.
Thank you @budmoto . Yes I am looking forward to getting it all run in. Enjoying it already.
Yes correct @Thegreatroberto mine is sold as a Diablo PSU but as you know though it doesn’t match visually to my Dino, internally and electronically it’s a perfect match.
This will be the third Dino/NCPSU I’ve had a Mk1 & Mk2 Dino/NCPSU and again this is a Dino Mk2 but with a Generation 2 NCPSU.
I’ve bought the PSU used (as always) for a very good price and also have a Dino+ PSU to sell and so the Dino Mk2/NCPSU Gen 2 will end up costing about £450 in total so very, very hard to beat at that price.
Would be interested in hearing whether you find it a substantial improvement over the Dino+. Thanks.
It looks like I’ll be picking up a well cared for low hour 272 and 250DR combo this weekend. It’s going to be interesting to contrast with my SU.
That is a good price. I have mine the other way around, dino ncpsu and diabolo phono. Sold my dino for a good lockdown price. And yes, the diabolo is slightly better. Is it worth double the dino? Um…not really.
I should have taken a picture of the internals side by side. Pretty sure the designs are similar, just with better components in the diablo.
A used 252 arrived today, bought from a Naim dealer and just back from a service.
It’s replaced a 282 which was not exactly shabby sounding but the 252 floors it even straight out of the box cold and not run in from the service.
I don’t really understand why people find it laid back and dull, this one is anything but. It’s more refined than the 282 and it’s more forensic for sure, I wouldn’t want to use it with a substandard source but it’s one heck of a music maker. I could still live happily with a 282 but I’m glad I have made the upgrade.
I’m looking forward to it warming up and running in, the Supercap was new in December so there’s probably more to come from both PS and pre-amp.
Couldn’t agree more - I made the same move from 282 to 252 and found it, as you do, utterly engaging, musical and just more of everything. As to source I still find it delivers in spades, even with my rather humble and naked ND5XS. But then I only really listen to Tidal and internet radio - no hi-res audio files…
Yep, more or less the same here.
282 is great (and I could have stayed happily with it but for lucky timing and circumstance), but 252…
One thing I notice is that orchestral and classical music in general is much better presented with 252.
I am listening to my classical records anew…I tended to find some of them a bit…stressful…with 282. It could be that the 252 is 2019, 10 years younger than my 282 - but I prefer to think that it just illustrates a level of insight into such music that the former brings. And listening this evening to Ry Cooder’s Jazz, well, crikey…
With you on this one trickdickie - I have the 252/SCDR/250DR combo and it’s fantastic - I totally agree with you the 252 floors the 282 and so it should for the increased price. I’m real happy with it
It started off a bit odd, first track I turned it up to just beyond 9 o’clock and it rather blew me away, really loud!
Further investigation showed that the volume pot was in the wrong position and 9 o’clock was closer to 11 o’clock! I carefully removed and repositioned the knob to match the position of my 282 start position and all is normal now. I’m surpsied that wasn’t spotted on the service.
It is really delightful. The 282 seems perhaps a bit mechanical and it misses some detail in comparison, the change of position of brushes on a drum for example, and it separates vocals out better.
Very nice @Graeme – looks like an Akurate spec?
I’m not sure @TheKevster but here’s what’s on the receipt: LP12 (inc. Karousel), Kore Akurate, Trampolin 2, Mose/Hercules mkii, Stageline N, Linn Basik Plus arm, AT 750SH cartridge.
It probably means more to you than it does to me. This is my entry point, with an eye on upgrading when funds allow. But first, I need some new records, although my old ones seem to have survived their hibernation remarkably well.
I remember you threatening this a few months ago!
What a beautiful LP12!
Yes, and now I’ve done it at last! Very happy so far.
