What was the last CD you bought

Yeah Graeme, I’ve been listening to both on Qobuz this week.
Decided to have the reasonably priced (£16 each) CD’s, rather than the extortionately priced Vinyl for these two though.

A bit of a let down for me. Everything has been available on excellent quality bootleg, and most on official releases. Not as interesting as Homegrown or Hitchhiker for me.
Not disputing the quality of the songs though & I agree about the greedy price :+1:

Agreed, the price of the record is silly, but I went for the record anyway, and the CD in case the record was a dud. But no, the record is immaculately pressed. Still a silly price though.

Karajan’s ‘Ring’ never received the acclaim of Solti’s - which I have bought in three different sets of LPs, and one box of CDs. Interested to hear what you think.

Solo saxophone played in a century-old 34-metre by 20-metre concrete water tank in Copenhagen. Should be interesting…

Let’s hope it doesn’t Tank. :face_with_hand_over_mouth:

Interesting…must have good decay on the notes.

Bit like…um… (was it) Paul Horn who recorded inside the Taj Mahal?

Yes, but also Pauline Oliveros, who recorded inside giant water tanks, bomb shelters etc

I don’t know Butcher or Oliveros…time to go searching, ta.

I made my own version of Chrome Dreams for £6 - pretty much all of the album has been released before. Neil is taking the proverbial.

These two, can I now expect to be banned for life from the forum

Well, Urm, I did get a nice gatefold cover, a stiff paper (scratchy) printed inner sleeve and an amazing fold out lyric poster!! :stuck_out_tongue_winking_eye:

Heard a solo sax player in an enormous circular concrete tank in Djupavik in Iceland. Don’t think it’s ever been recorded, the sax player was also the hotel chef. The sound is amazing, as if there are several saxes. The tank was once for storing herrings for the adjacent factory. I believe Sigur Ros have played there.
Google Sigur Ros Djupavik, the gig is on YouTube.

Two CDs on the excellent New Jazz & Improvised Music Recordings label:

Glasgow Improvisers Orchestra, Flying A Kite On An Empty Beach

and Johnny Richards’ solo piano concert Build A Friend

All releases on this label have fantastic packaging and very good Sq - well worth exploring for those of you with an adventurous/avant-garde bent.

Yes, I immediately thought of Oliveros.

I only knew about Oliveros because I heard her on Late Junction on Radio 3 - a much missed programme.

CD set is here, LP set arriving soon…

At. Last. It’s been a long journey for Doors fans with this one!
Worth it - I hope.

Deleted. Wrong thread.

Couple of Turrentines! Early US and Japanese reissue sounding great. ST certainly has a chilled sax style.
