The Kaiser Chiefs in Bournemouth

Managed to miss the band at various festivals so the first time I have seen them. Very accomplished - and some great songs in the back catalogue but ‘enjoyable’ rather than ‘fun’. Didn’t even say ‘Bye’ when they went off - Ricky just walked off before the band, perhaps it was a bad day for him.

I don’t sit in the balcony very often so may not have noticed it before, but lots of people left early. Why? Never get this at football and never seen it at a gig. Is the car park at the BiC really that bad?

Wow, he’s changed since I saw him at the Marquee gig.

(Admittedly a trip to setlist confirms my memory that gig was when I was studying for my A’Levels and it was 1980.)

Yes, I only saw him once before, on the Stiffs Tour (1978-ish?). Voice and wit unchanged however, I have to say.

Olivia Chaney at Kings Place London last night, spellbinding performance with her “rock band” “The News From Nowhere”. What a very talented lady, beautiful voice and multi instrumentalist.

Great night, apologies for poor pics…I need a new iPhone!

De Barra last Monday in the Carlton Club in Whalley Range in Manchester.

Wonderful rendition of “Galway Shawl” along with a great original inspired by his mother’s parents, which was very well received by his mother sitting beside me!

Followed by the band Botanicals which had some stellar bass playing.

Contiuning on exploring Biber’s work. This time Vox Luminis played his two requiems.

I left a Larry Carlton concert in London before the end once because I didn’t want to miss the last train. I also walked out of a Bob Dylan concert early after he’d massacred Tangled Up in Blue. He’d ruined most of the others before that too, but TUIB was the final straw.

I will confess to leaving two concerts - both many years ago. One was due to my wife feeling ill and the other was Gary Moore - ‘playing the Blues’ - which sounded like he was ill!

Very nice concert with Julian Rachlin as violinist and conductor. A light but nice program. Starting with Fritz Kreisler, Mozart Violin Concert and the Scottish Symphony from Mendelssohn….

Piotr Anderszewski: Brahms + Beethoven

Program

Johannes Brahms: Selection from Klavierstücke Op.116-119 Ludwig van Beethoven: Piano Sonata No. 32 Op.111

Very first time listening to this pianist. Brahms was a bit too heavy handed for me and felt that he was better suited for Beethoven piece albeit still missing is a sense of fun. He cherry picked a different pieces from the each Fantasies so I felt a continuity was a bit lost as I am familiar with the order.

We were at the Royal College of Music last night for a concert featuring the Chamber Orchestra of Europe with the RCMCO playing Farrenc’s overture no.2 and Beethoven’s symphony No.1.

The Farrenc overture was delightful and a lovely prelude to the Beethoven. It’s astonishing that she’s not better known or appreciated. I shall be seeking out more of her music.

Alter Bridge at the Motorpoint Arena, Nottingham.

A band I have seen many times over the years after they formed from the demise of Creed. Very popular within the current ‘rock’ audience but never really crossed over to become huge. However the arena was full with a capacity of 10,000 and the set was powerful and well received. The current set-list omits too many of my favourite songs and was a bit too ‘metal’ for my tastes.

The two guitarists have interesting side projects (Myles was a contender for a revised Zeppelin and sings with Slash’s band) while Mark does a great Sinatra. They work hard to make a living!

First gig at the Motorpoint and I was impressed - albeit I was on the arena floor so I don’t know about the seated positions. Lots of food choices inside the venue and while not cheap, prices were not at Co Op Live level.

Just came from another great concert in Bamberger. Was also nice to hear Mussorgsky’s Pictures in concert.
