Yes, no phone pics allowed during show but my Side-Eye view seat position shown below! For us and I suspect the vast majority of the audience it was an incredible 2.5 hour performance. Sound quality and music were excellent of course, and we were so happy to enjoy the world class musicianship by all the band members who were outstanding. Additionally, for a couple of the encores Pat played solo acoustic which was amazing to hear.

Editors at the Spendour Festival, Nottingham.
The band were on great form and had a well planned, one hour, festival set. New songs sound great although I miss tracks from my favourite EBM album. Can’t blame them for moving on again though.
Very friendly festival although sadly this is likely to be the last year. Walked to the front while the crowd stocked up on food / drink at changeover and had a great position with excellent sound. Really like being able to see the band inter-actions close up.

Mrs P and I went on Saturday to Pat Metheny 2.5 hours performance just went in a flash! in a good way. It’s the second time we have seen him last time solo at the Barbican which was marvellous. I have missed out over the years, I had a quick conversation with the guy sitting next to me and he said he rarely missed seeing him and the first time he saw him in 1978 he paid £1.50! Great evening

I’m hoping something very similar will replace it. Didn’t go this year but have been to a goodly number down the years. Some rain, some shine, but always enjoyable, particilarly when it used to be one day only. However, missing Splendour one year did cause us to discover the excellent Tramlines festival in Sheffield, which is bigger but not too big (IMHO).

My son is a regular at Tramlines and he speaks highly of it too. I tend to go to outdoor shows for particular bands, not the whole experience - Zep at Knebworth was too much of a right of passage for me to do this too often! Tramlines will definitely be an alternative for me in the future, along with the shows in the grounds of York Museum which I found to be a great venue.

A friend and I saw the matinee performance of I Puritani at Covent Garden this weekend. Lisette Oropesa was stupendously good, heading up a strong cast. One of the best opera performances I have attended.

The Ignition Big Band with a night of Afrobeat and High Life music at the Ignition Brewery and Taproom in Sydenham, London in Monday evening. These are all professional musicians (mainly jazz) who do this on a monthly basis in their own time. Absolutely brilliant night

Flaming Lips at Somerset House last night. Wayne, bouncing balloons, pink robots (who have added a cute loin thrust during ‘their’ song), eyeballs etc and a killer version of Sabbath’s War Pigs…great fun, especially the second set when darkness set in and enhanced the light show and psychedelicness.
A very touching moment when Wayne talked about his very recently-deceased brother ( 11 days since he died).
Fine night.
Then a quick dash across town to catch the very end of Ese and The Vooduu People’s set. Some fiery guitar workouts from Es, and great to see Kissangwa on drums again (been awhile) so hugs abounded. A lovely guy.

Just back from WOMAD. What a great weekend, although escaping the sun was difficult. It’s at a new location called Neston Park, near Corsham, Wiltshire. Not far from the previous location.
There were some standout moments for me:
Ganavya was exceptional. Spiritual, chilled and totally absorbing
Alfa Mist
Made Kute grandson of Fela
Emma-Jean Thackray was also exceptional. Tremendous, featuring her album Weirdo plus some other earlier tunes

Jytäkesä Go-Go (local music festival, local meaning within walking distance)
Day 1 (these were the ones I managed to catch)
Love Proge, a tribute band playing music of e.g. Wigwam and Tasavallan Presidentti (those who know their prog know).
Litku Klemetti, celebrated for an eclectic, nostalgic sound drawing from 1970s prog, punk energy, and catchy pop melodies.
Fun Lovin’ Criminals, one third of the original but still great.
Atomic Swing, nostalgia but Swedes know how to do it (entertain).
The Raveonettes, noice rock from Denmark, interesting but loud.
Flaming Sideburns, Finnish garage rock with Argentinian twist.

Day 2
Plutonium 74, psychedelic rhythm music, reggae, hip-hop, and melancholic maritime groove with eccentric lyrics and large brass arrangements. Very hypnotic performance.
Hurula, energetic, melodic Swedish-language indie pop with raw punk rock and post-punk influences. A sound wall of three guitars was impressive as always.
Therapy?, there were also guests from UK. Even if this was not my main interest at the festival I still kind of liked their aggressive, dark, and partly melodic sound.
Lemonator, guitar-driven pop-rock sound and catchy choruses. This gig was part of a 30th anniversary renunion, as promised completely live without backing tracks or metronome clicks.
Ismo Alanko, one of Finland’s most influential and respected rock singer-songwriters and the main act of the festival. The set contained samples of his whole almost 50 years career. Great performance and perfect ending for the evening.
