I think it sounds very good to my ears. I don’t have any other versions to compare to though. It’s worth the investment in my opinion.

The Timeless originals and the Music on Vinyl produced reissues are all excellent not only the Chet titles but all the others I have are also very good.

So bought this on Discogs and advertised as VG+…..I’ll let you be the judge! Didn’t want the picture disc so thought I’d be better off here….
As a bit of an update…I put it through the washer quite a few times and gave the spot some individual attention.
So I think I might have got it up to a ‘good’ from a poor grade according to Discogs grading criteria.
Anyway to be fair the vendor has agreed to a refund but the question is can I be arsed for the sake of a tenner or whatever it was….the SQ is pretty good on this copy so will wait for the second copy to arrive before I do anything….thanks for all your inputs and comments….

You’d probably find a copy in better condition at a charity shop.
I hate people who misrepresent on Discogs. Doesn’t happen often to me, but really P’s me off when it does.

If the seller doesnt play ball and If you paid with a credit card you can open a dispute with your card issuer and get your money back. Item not as described.

and give him a 1* slating on Discogs explaining how bad it was. Sellers do not, generally, like this.

My sympathies, it really is very frustrating when this happens. Hope the new version you’ve found is better and you get a refund for the ‘Fair’ condition album you received - sheesh.
I’ve been hunting early Beatles mono LPs and record vendor gradings are a minefield.

The Beatles - Please Please Me, in mono. Two copies acquired recently. A family friend kindly agreed to give me their ‘owned since new’ 1964 large mono copy, for a charity donation of their choice for the secondhand value of the album - a lovely way to trade. Also, a nice small mono 1965 version, where the condition just beggars belief - Nr Mint throughout, and sounds tremendous too. Those Emitex poly liners really did a good job of protecting these early Fab albums. Quite different colour variations on the album covers too.

Thank you, I’m answering from a hospital bed just after Turp’s surgery… I’m reading the forum and listening to Tidal (Nancy Sinatra) to forget the post-operative pain and I think I’ll treat myself to this album of his even if I really like Chet Baker for his delicate songs …

I never buy anything on Discogs less than NM. I know that VG+ is supposed to be good enough and they generally come up better after a good clean, but I’d rather pay a few quid more and hope for a real gem.

I usually email and ask a few pertinent questions and ask for photos for more expensive items. Just to sound out the attitude of the seller, if they give a snotty response or just a blank then I avoid.

If you buy an album off Discogs and is sold as VG+ Is that based on the age of an album?
So, if an album is 50 years old, it would show more wear than an album that is only 5 years old?
NM I can understand but a copy of Hunky Dory that I bought from Discogs that was sold as VG+ clearly shows it has been played a lot and does have minor crackles etc but as you can listen through this it still sounds great.
NM would have been like twice the price but I’m now thinking it is worth the cost for important albums.
Age has nothing to do with it.
Discogs grading is pretty good, if a record doesnt match the description of the applicable grade then its not as described no matter what a bad seller might try to have you believe.
The only current difference is that grading has changed slightly with sleeves and record graded separately

Donald Byrd and co. At The Half Note. The next best thing to being there, and you can revisit whenever takes your fancy. The usual stellar issue from the Blue Note Tone Poet series. Please could we have Volume 2 next Mr Harley..?

I don’t agree. I have many 45+ year old albums that I bought new and played regularly which are still in near mint condition. Near mint and other classifications like VG+ are definitive and not subject to provisos like “VG+ for its age”. This was the argument given to me when I bought a 1st press of Meddle off eBay. I replied you may as well say “it’s VG+ given that the kids used it as a frisbee”.
I no longer buy used albums.

Absolutely! But its not on the 2023 schedule. So not quite back after the short break anounced at the end of the record. Left me feeling like a great gig that I had to leave early before the second set
