Which ANC headphones allow connecting two of them at same device simultaneously?

I am looking for a pair of over the ear ANC headphones which allow a pair of them to connect to the dame device at the same time. So if I am on plane with my partner she and I can connect both our headphones to the ipad and listen to the same thing at once.

I was looking at the Sony XM5 but I believe they do the allow that?

What about Bose QuietComfort Ultra? Do they have that feature?

I have an earlier version of Bose Quietcomfort, which spdon’t. But many years ago made a simple device: a mini box with 4 3.5mm stereo jacks connected in parallel, which with one connected via a patch lead to a lightning or USB-C to jack adapter will allow up to 3 headphones to be connected to an iPhobe or iPad - though how well that works depends on sensitivity of the headphones if different, and ear sensitivity.

I think the source device needs to actually support dual audio devices. Most phones and tablets specifically see the Bluetooth headphones as the audio handler. So it’s not so much the headphones as the source. iPads and iPhones have a Share Audio function.

Mr Google tells me that the iPad share audio works with Apple earbuds and Beats headphones. The headphones just have the right chip. Don’t can be done.

Yes both the headphones and source must support the latest version of Bluetooth. If either don’t, you’re dead in the water.

So I have an iPad Air which supports the latest Bluetooth as far as I am aware.

Do the Sony XM5 support latest Bluetooth?

And if yes would I be able to share the audio from my ipad to two pairs of xm5 simultaneously?

I believe the AirPlay dongle allows you to do this. It also connects to airplane socket to give Bluetooth on plane.

You may need USB C to 3.5 mm adapter or use with IPad

Very useful device as Pro model also can act as Bluetooth receiver.

Is there a particular one please?

Do you only have one iOS device between the two of you? Nothing wrong with that of course, but if you have an additional iPhone, iPad or iPod, you can both listen using any headphones you want.

We do have each our own ipad but just fancied taking the one and sharing the watching/listening experience.

It baffles me how in this day and age it can be so difficult to pair devices without hassle. You’d think it would be an easy job.

I have noticed that the Bose QC Ultra offer the option of sharing between 2 headphones through their Music Share option on Bose Connect app. Can anyone confirm if this works ok?

Airfly Pro 2 is latest version. I have no issues with it. I had earlier version SE and it worked perfectly on planes.

Available on Amazon, a google search provides comparison of features.

I’ll have a test with my JBLs tonight. I bought 4 JBL ANC headphones for the family to cope with long flights. But everyone watched their own screens.

In terms of cost perfomant ANC headphones, they are superb. Much more affordable than the Sennheiser and Bose options. Comfy and over 50hrs battery life.

So my JBL Tune770NC manual says you can connect multiple pairs simultaneously if the device supports it. My Google Pixel 7a did not. And the Google manual confirmed it really did not.

I don’t think the ipad supports multiple headphones unless they are Apple ones. So it looks like my best option is the Airfly Pro dongle by the looks of it

That’s definitely an option in the Sony app but I’ve not used it.

Apple Airpod Max seems to fit the bill.

Yes, I think Apple has purposefully locked the multiple headphones feature in its products so that they force people to buy their headphones. But the AirPod Max are heavy and way too expensive for what they are. I’d much rather go for the Sony or Bose and use an Airfly gadget
