Which nap 250 with the nac 72?

It has to be olive, surely?

Olive 72 plus olive 250 is a pretty classic pairing. I would not spend more on a more modern 250 personally. Just make sure that they are serviced, it really matters.

Just need a pair of SBLs for a great old-school system. Great value now too.

Same olive vintage for looks perhaps ?

There’s two olive front colors wasn’t there ?

I recall the more yellow olive were early, later it went slightly more green olive.

My own Olive stuff is packed away so can’t check.

Anyway you will need a Hicap too.

Transformer Brand changed in Hicap and 250 during Olive period…, H&F up to around 1993, then Nuvotem.

The olive green shade varies from a brownish olive to a greyish olive and everything in-between. Naim offered a matching service so older or newer could have either.

When H&F closed the HICAP briefly used a transformer from St.Ives until the Nuvotem item came on line.

The answer will depend on your speakers as well as the preamp. Compared to the Olive 250, the Classic 250.2 (as well as the 250DR and the New Classic models) that replaced it is better able to control some speakers and might therefore be preferable in some systems.

I’ve the Tannoy Prestige Kensington SE

To my knowledge there’s six or seven Nap 250 editions, starting with BD250 up to NC250.

Budget would make sense.

The Olive era 250/HC to match Nac 72 was an excellent combo, all would now need service if never done.

Yes, but the change from olive to Classic was significant in its increased power which can affect loudspeaker matching. A factor that is often overlooked.

Would say voicing and synergy is key – though all are namely 250s they are certainly different amps, and sound different due to different circuit designs and components from different periods.

Wouldn’t want to hear the slightest un-sync between the preamps and power amps either. I will go far to get the HiCap and 250 having the same brand of transformer (ie H&F vs Nuvotem) depends on sonic preference.

I pretty much gave away my near mint/boxed/serviced late olive 250. Think it was a 2001 or 2002 with a larger 600va? transformer. Should have kept it, but as always you cant keep everything.
