I cooked roast chicken for lunch today, and to accompany we had this Ramon Bilbao Rioja, which was delicious. Very good value too, courtesy of Majestics.
Great value - it always delivers.
Leftover roast chicken in a pie tonight with this rather good grenache cinsault blend from Duncan Savage in Cape Town. The “girl next door” definitely delivered - plenty of fruit and it seemed to just disappear! Oops!
Duncan is such a great guy. Excellent wines, and a top bloke.
Anybody else notice that during the (very enjoyable) series “The Queen’s Gambit” the protagonist drinks (rather incongruously) a wine from Tyrrells in Australia’s Hunter Valley?
I read - spoiler alert - that all the chess games and moves in the series are accurate and from actual games played (presumably to stop chess-geeky people spotting otherwise). But I move in wine-geeky circles, so the continuity people could not rest on their chess-laurels..!
It’s a great show. Didn’t think I’d enjoy a series about chess.
Glass of box Merlot ce soir, probably open something nice at the weekend.
To accompany a cheese fondue, this Donnhoff Riesling hit the spot. Some petrol notes initially but great fruit and lively acidity balancing the RS. Just a pleasure
2015 Epicure Blanc, a mellange of Chardonnay & Sauvignon, lovely wine from Daheron Domaine du Parc

I’ve only two left now, but I enjoyed this tonight with some ‘bleu’ rib-eye. Even now the meal is over this is a delight. It’s very mellow, but a little thin with a hint of tannins. Time for some cheese!
Our anniversary dinner:
The fizz was amongst the very best that I remember. The red was recommended by Will Lyons in the Sunday Times a couple of weeks ago. It comes from the same area of Spain as my favourite, Condado de Haza. It doesn’t quite have the same structure but still a big fruity enjoyable mouthful. We loved it.
Happy anniversary.
Happy anniversary - great champagne!
Happy anniversary! Some nice wines there.
Happy anniversary
Happy anniversary. Pol is my favourite NV champagne and red sounds delicious.
IMW (Institute of Masters of Wine) Course Days - like so many other things in these weird times - have needed to go online.
So I am tasting these (and drinking what’s left of the best of them).
It’s an unusual feeling!
A big thank you to all who commented or liked. We had a super dinner. Thanks.
C.
