I still have a couple of Penfolds from 2002. Unfortunately not Grange, nor Bin 707, just Kalimna Bin 28…

How’s your day?
Wine-wise, I think I possibly win.

Not 100% effective at spitting when you are with Olivier Krug…

The Zim somms are quite a thing - they have made a huge impact through the world sommelier championships. I think HRH has covered them at least once.

Interesting how 707 values have exploded similarly to Grange - I saw a review from 2000 when the current release (97?) was £39 a bottle and you paid £50 in 2006. In 2013 I attended a Wine Society tasting with Richard Gago and they poured 2 or 3 vintages of Grange as well as other current releases, including 707 2010 which was my standout wine of the night. On the way home I bought a case of 6 IB for £150 a pop. Sold it in 2021 for £300 a bottle; doubling value in 8 years seemed too much of a good thing to ignore.

Looks great Rod. I had a glass of 169 edition in a restaurant about 6 months ago and opened my only bottle of 161 edition to celebrate getting hitched last month. 161 really was a belter. Sadly no Krug poured at taste Champagne last week but still very good indeed. Can understand samples not being expectorated!

A friend of mine is a wine buff, I think there may be some very dark days ahead for him - I am keeping one of my two bottles for him as a gift

A very generous gesture - he must be a good friend and hope the days are not as dark as you suggest.

The only better thing than having a special bottle of wine is having the right occasion to open it and being able to share it with those who also appreciate the context for opening that particular bottle.

I remember attending a Vega Sicilia dinner which included 3 vintages of the celebrated Unico. As I savoured each glass as something to treasure one of the other diners (who was a banker from the city) indicated that Unico was his weekday wine. How sad that familiarity with legendary wines somehow diminished them to the ordinary.

I’ve had a 2012 Penfolds Bin 128 in the cellar for a little while now. Looking forward to drinking it in the next 2-3 years, with some beef, I think.
I love the aging ability of these wines for the affordable price. I should have bought a half case tho …

Which Knoll Smaragd did you drink?

Here is the list, and the menu. Was a lovely evening. Heidi’s Ausbruch was the only empty one when we left…

Now that’s a great wine.

Here’s a surprise, at least to me, it added flavour to my lemon risotto this even.

I am a fan of Knolls GV Vinothekfüllung :+1:
In which Austrian Restaurant was the tasting? :austria:

Nice to know, I have never tasted Arinto, but I will keep it in my mind :+1:

My good lady found it, may be from an online vintage port house / merchant. I’ll be finishing it off tonight with another risotto.

Spinifex “ Lola” 2017 field blend white from Barossa Valley.
Nice dry white a bit like a still champagne with brioche, toast, lime and long finish.
