I’m a big fan of Zweigelt. It’s grown quite close to where I live. This particular bottle was so outstanding that I had to take a picture of the label. It was incredibly intense and robust—a quality I usually only find in a Cuvée blend. I’m definitely going to lay down a few bottles of this.

Looks like something I should look out for in Vienna when I visit in February

We are quite close to Tassie so for the next stage in our “drinking our way around Australia" tour we had this lovely Pinot Noir with a unique character of its own.

Very easy and smooth to drink with slow roast lamb shoulder.

A good Greek lineup focused on xinomavro. My favourites were the Jeune Vignes and Earth & Sky from Thymiopoulos - super value for what they deliver.

My last 2 bottles of the Mas de Daumas Gassac 2010. Had friends over for roast beef. Absolutely stunning wine

Currently an M&S No.29 Malbec - which genius decided to put an M&S food/wine shop in Rugby services

A cheap but inoffensive bottle of red I didn’t need when away over the weekend, but have just opened on return.

Next up will be a lovely reasonably priced 2021 Furmint I tasted in a Cambridge wine bar last night:

Just back from 3 weeks in Italy.
A sample of some of the bottles we had.
Standouts were the Zero bubbles and Viticoltori de Conciliis Temparubra.

Mature Mas de Daumas-Gassac de s a favourite of mine, whether the white or the red. It develops a lot of complexity that appeals to me. Think it might be time to check out a few.

Fully agree. The 2010 still has so much fruit but with this wonderful acidity that keeps it fresh. A lovely, balanced wine

I was in the mood for Daumas Gassac after @crispyduck posted about the 2010. The first bottle from my second case of 2009 elevating the humble burger with its rich dark fruit.

Barbeito Madeira Sercial 10 yo and Dows Port Tawny 20 yr old

Two very different styles. The Madeira dry and rich at the same time. Pale brown, nutty. The port garnet colour with a lot of fruit sweetness and heat. We drank both tonight with a cape chicken curry with lots of Mrs Balls chutney. Very good matches.
