Which wine are you drinking? Tell us about it

Just read it. You make some excellent points but not sure certain other publications will be quite as impressed. Do you think the pallets of samples might be reduced next time?

Couldn’t ask where you get this from could I?

@ewencummins
Hi Ewen, I bought it locally in NZ from the Smith and Sheth winery website where it was selling around $40 NZ.
Smith and Sheth are a new Hawke’s Bay winery bankrolled by US IT money and they bought the Lowburn Ferry winery recently.
In the UK it looks that Shaftesbury wines and Wine&Co were selling earlier vintages, although by the looks it the last vintages they sold were 2014.
So best of luck.

I bought a couple of bottles of the 2013 from LaVino in Halifax when they still had a physical shop (there is a tasting note above). They are still online, looks like they have the 2015.

Taylor’s vintage port 2016
This is the first high quality vintage port I have tasted. Utterly, stupendously rich with blackberries and eucalyptus notes. Very dense colour, about the darkest I have seen in a wine. Smooth but high in alcohol. Lovely now but will live 50 years plus pity I won’t live long enough to taste it at its best.

2016 Taylors, well all wines from 2016 are classic wines, some say as good at the 1955 vintage and possibly 1963 - 100 Point from James Suckling

Taylors is outstanding little more information on Taylors and the 3 Qunita’s -

One that can be drank circa 1970s Rod Stewart style. Easily glugged straight from the bottle. Needs to be slightly chilled tho.

Craggy Range Pinot Noir 2017 Te Muna vineyard, Martinborough.

Decanter magazine recently rated this as one of the top 3 New World Pinot Noirs. It’s about £20 in NZ.
On the palate there is upfront fruit that makes the wine very delicious. I get ripe cherries , and then earthy spicy meaty flavours with a long finish. Acidity gives it grip in the mouth. Beautifully balanced.

I’ve just ordered in some of this one. Looking forward to trying it.

I’m sure you’ll like it Richard. The other top pinots seemed to be £40 and more.

Focus for me on Loire this morning from Langlois Chateau with thier great MD Francois Regis - lovely wines, they specialise in Saumur which is not the most sexy Loire AOC - but the Saumur Blanc VV has always been a favorite of mine, one of the best wines to drink with food and the new 2017 Saumur Rouge - watch out for the Loire reds from 2017 - outstanding and serve it slightly chilled superb value wine

The Craggy Range is here but sadly the UK won’t be getting the 2017 until later in the year. No matter, the 2016 is excellent. This will do very nicely, thank you…

Excellent. I checked the vintage chart for Martinborough and 2015 and 2016 are better vintages for their reds than 2017 so well done for securing it.

Tried it yesterday in NZ. great depth of fruit. A bottle had been airfreighted to the local wine shop with 2 reserve still wines and they had some left over, lucky me.

the “Vin clair” wines really show the depth of the reserve wines in the Bollinger cellar, around 9m magnums which are stored Cru by Cru and village by village and these wines are never sold on a comerical basis

Bollinger host a week of tasting’s in March to show the vin clair from this years harvest, and the wine chosen for Special Cuvee of that year and then the blend of Special Cuvee pre second ferment - there are about 150 + wines in Special Cuvee

the new PN is superb, if you like the Bollinger focus on Pinot
