Leaving due to his ongoing fight with cancer.
He leaves a great gap that is unlikely to be filled. I wish him well in his battle.

Another loss after the great J Walker….at least he survives. Great, great broadcaster and all round nice chap.
Sad to hear this, Sundays on Radio 2 will never be the same again. Wish Bob well in his battle,
Great great musicologist.
Bob Harris is “stepping down” to focus on his health. I truly, wish him well. He is one of the great broadcasters on both radio and television and my appreciation of music has been so broadened by his contribution to broadcasting.
All the best to Bob! Thanks for bringing us so much music and so much insight! I’m sure all on this forum will be rooting for him. An omni present voice since my teenage years. And that is a long time!
As has been rightly mentioned above, another large gap being left…..appreciating that Bob is still with us but as per the loss of the likes of Johnnie Walker, John Peel & Andy Kershaw. I just wish Bob well with his continued fight against cancer.
We have all grown older with some marvellous commentators providing the soundtrack of our lives.
How good was it to listen to Bob at the last Chester show? Such a privilege. Hope he enjoys the twilight years with some great tracks and his family.
Yep that’s sad news. I hope he continues to be successful in his battle.
I once attended a gig at Dingwalls featuring The Louvin Brothers & Blanche. I was told I had to stand at the bar right at the back as they were filming and I was in the way.
I was not happy as this wasn’t mentioned when I bought the tickets and was arguing with this chap.
Bob Harris came over to me and said I have a table reserved at the front. There are some spaces and you are welcome to sit there. Such a lovely chap. He didn’t need to get involved but he did.
A great shame annd understandable given his recent health challenges. A generation of great radio DJs is rapidly diminishing in number.
Although a bit too young to appreciate the music of the 70s at the time, Johnnie Walker and latterly, Bob Harris have introduced me to some fantastic music (and amusing anecdotes) via the Sounds of the 70s show. It’s been a regular Sunday afternoon listen for Mrs_n and I for a number of years now.
I must say, Shaun Keaveny is doing a sterling job as the stand in, so hopefully the show will continue on.
Fingers crossed for you Bob. Keep fighting.
Yes. Bob is great - and I’m sure we all wish him all the best.
I was unsure of Sean Keaveny for a while, but he is doing OK.
Difficult to follow Bob though !
I liked the joke in the Sunday paper showing two BBC executives talking to each other.
“I hear a whisper going around that Bob Harris is leaving”.
Best wishes to Bob and many thanks for so many great shows. So glad I got to see him in Chester last year as part of the Acoustica show - great fun.
