Why are 9 Inch Tonearms standard?

Most tonearms are pretty close in length, and almost all pivot at the top right corner of the record deck.

I’m a big fan of the simplicity of maintenance with direct drive decks. To say that deck is tempting is an understatement.

To produce things on so massive a scale that eight different colour hues could be available is impressive in itself. The deck would, no doubt, match well with a lovely old Naim ‘Olive’ system (not that I’m thinking of abandoning my LP12).
