Hi, @jmtennapel, I’d be interested to know where you have got the data from to support this comment about jitter on the WiiM Pro. Can you give some reference?
The reason I ask is that I’m considering getting one, and the review on ASR, which included jitter measurement, concluded that it was excellent as a digital source (although the analogue performance was a different matter) so I’m interested to know how you have reached such a negative conclusion.
What hifi has awarded it a 5-star rating and best affordable music streamer titles recently. Partly based on the sound quality. I have multiple excited friends that say that this is the best device they ever had. Myself waiting for an Amp that is coming out later this year, for the 2nd system.
Hi there, are you streaming from the WIIM to the NDX2 in 24/192 quality to the Naim?
I am having trouble to stream in this quality. Either with Coax oder Toslink, I am getting hickups with the NDX2 although it should receive it with no problem. Yet, the music breaks up. Tried everything on the Wiim Pro, but nothing helped.
Absolutely. When I connect the WIIM Pro directly with the Michi P5 Series II, it works perfectly. But I want to use the NDX as DAC for better quality. So bandwidth is not an issue
Thanks! However, I suspect that the NDX2 has a problem and will reach out to Naim. Since the WIIM pro works fine with the Michi P5, perhaps some issues with Naim. We’ll see…
It may well be this. The NDX2 may be having difficulty locking onto the WiiM’s digital signal if timing errors or jitter are high. IIRC Naim usually keep the signal lock threshold fairly tight for best performance. Do you have a different hi-res transport of known quality to connect up to check? If not you could always take the NDX2 into your dealer - I’m sure they would likely have something suitable on hand here to try on it.
I’m interested in getting a Wiim Pro to connect to my SuperUniti. Has anyone tried the Pro Plus and would it make any difference if I was using the SU’S DAC?
Yes, if I connect the WiiM Pro directly with the Michhi P5 Series 2 -either via Toslink or Optical- it works perfectly! 192/24 at its best. Amazon HD and also Tidal via the Wiim Pro and Michi P5 Series 2 are amazing!
Yes problem sorted - however, WiiM didn’t work with the NDX2 as DAC. Thus, I decided to sell the NDx2 as I am having an excellent DAC in the Michi P5. Thanks!
My brother has an ND5 XS. He has been having problems with Tidal recently. I was wondering if using a Wiim Pro as the streamer, streaming to the ND5 XS DAC would be a good solution?
The ND5 XS DAC would still be doing the heavy lifting, the Wiim only used as a streaming platform.
Or, maybe paying more for a Bluesound Node to use in the same manner (as a streamer only) would be a better choice?
The logic is that the 1st generation streamers frequently have problems streaming Tidal, and it will only get worse. One day Naim will stop supporting the older streamers.
For the price my brother paid his ND5 XS, he should get at the very least a decade’s worth of performance, if not more.
Naim advertised the ND5 XS as a Tidal capable machine. If it can no longer play Tidal after just 5 years, that would be a problem. I am sure a small claims court would agree.
Thank you Raptor. I would like to report back on having my Rpi3A+ and DigiOne up again and it does sound better than the WiiM mini I also have. Both singing through a Chord Mojo as desktop DAC. Managed to do A/B comparsion with DigiOne connecting via coax and the WiiM using Toslink. I have no compliant on either but the WiiM sound a tad flat and less dynamic as compared to the DigiOne.
Software-wise, I have tried both moOde and piCoreplayer, currently on the latter as I’ve experience audio dropout using moOde whenever the media’s sampling rate / bit depth change, i.e. when I listen to a playlist with mix formatted songs, apparently a common issue with Rpi I2S-S/PDIF HAT. I am sure it is not the Chord DAC as WiiM handled it beautifully. There is a software workaround in pCP’s squeezelite setting therefore I have settled with it now. Still learning how to expand the LMS capability to incorporate more online streaming services. I don’t hear any SQ difference between moOde and pCP.
Being an ex-nDAC user, I can also attest it does benefit from better quality digital source.
Have a read of the forum over the first year or two after Tidal integration. It was plagued with threads about Tidal dropouts, and that was when the 1st gen streamers were still current. Aside from this brief glitch, it runs way more reliably now than it did back then.
