Anyone else using one of these? I just bought one on Amazon for $329. Used it briefly in place of an Innuos Zen Mk3 into Chord Dave/32.5/hc/250/ATC 7s. Excellent.
Did longer listening into Qutest/52/250/SL2s. Haven’t had time to do a direct A:B vs the Innuos, but also didn’t feel the need to. So far it’s been outstanding across electronica and solo piano recital
I think Innuos and others may have a problem on their hands. I had thought about getting a Pulse but now questioning that path. Maybe that will change after a direct A:B.
I’ve been looking to pick up one up to replace a 12 yr old Squeezebox Touch; it’s one of the few streamers on the market with a screen that supports Squeezelite and cheaper than the Eversolo A6. How’s the internal DAC?
I have one directly into active AVIs and a rel sub and its bloody marvellous, outstanding software it all just works. Within the confines of this system I have no interest in using an external dac, it just sounds so natural and effortless.
I got one for my parents direct into a pair of meridian M2s The remote for non technical folk is a god send I have put their favorite radio stations on the 4 presets and they are so delighted with it.
I have a bluesound node on other duties, thats also very good, but I would say the ultra has it for facilities, price and software, both sound great to my ears.
I have a Sonos Port and a Wiim Pro Plus. Im gonna try the Blue Sound NODE. Its twice the price of the WiiM but several ofy friends bought it and say hands down the best. The units are made in Canada by a very reputable company.
Does it matter where?
Having said that, in my experience the significant question with products from China is how good is the quality control, because the nature of manufacture of some products often seems to make quality very variable if tight QC is not applied. That is not saying this is unique to China, just that I am aware of it being a not uncommon issue.
I bought one shortly after they came out for streaming which it does very well.
It is also very good for playing the CD rips on my NAS created by a UnitiCore.
The interface and display seem more user friendly than the Focal & Naim, so far.
No complaints with the DAC, either.
I’ve only heard them at shows but was absolutely blown away by them! Was thinking this and a set of my old Kan’s would be all my daughter needs when she goes to Uni!
Incredibly neat and appealing little unit, for most people this is all the hi-fi they will ever need - I’d love one in my bedroom!
I use mine through my 272 and its internal dac, very good in some ways better than the 272 except in the bass, much better than it deserves to be at the price.
I haven’t tried the Wiim internal dac but the app is superb.
And the WiiM Amp is a one (small) box solution, just add speakers.
It is currently on sale for £249 at Sevenoaks and a few other retailers, ridiculous price for what you’re getting.
I have also had a Wiim Pro with an external dac. Worked fine and user interface on pad or phone brilliant. However then we have to consider reliability and longevity. If say the components have only cost £20 how long will they last? I think you can forget about spares being available as they are not financially viable to repair.
Moving swiftly on, what sort of company is Wiim?
For all normal definitions, it’s a branch of Google with its unlimited financial power to flatten any competition. That can’t be positive. I would be more than pleased to hear other’s thoughts.
Well, the total probably is somewhat more than that, but with electronic components price is not a measure of reliability, though indeed if/when sonething goes wrong, which just like an expensive brand could be next year or not until 30 years’ time, it might not be viable to repair.
