Think it’s Focal thinking, not Naim’s
For sure Ian - rather weird and frankly disappointing
Must be better items to deliver for a 10th birthday
Not really a wish list, but being aware of the 10th anniversary offering, I would have thought that if Vervent Audio Group really wished to integrate Naim and Focal, whilst being cognisant of current lifestyle trends, it would be developing a high performance integrated streamer / control unit and active loudspeakers.
If I understand its product offering properly, I think this is what Linn has done already and has also kept everything in the digital domain up to the loudspeakers.
Very good indeed, I prefer the Naim sound but the technical and also the elegant solution from Linn is very appealing!
You’d think that after 10 years together they’d have aligned their thinking to an extent…
Snacks and drinks tray - suspended naturally.
Would agree with “entry level” separates including streamer. Mu-so and Core are all well and good but it’s a massive jump thereafter from what I can see. The old Naim ladder (and sell them a PS later - much mocked even by dealers) did seduce you in to separates and upgrades, but this seems to be gone as far as I can see. The lowest priced system of Naim separates seems to be a bit of a gulp to me. What happened to the likes of the 112 and 150 - hopefully only temporarily suspended?
I guess they’ve done their research. But I hope it’s not driven by accountants looking at the immediate profit and loss. Many (most?) of us with full fat 500 or thereabouts Naim systems started with something rather more modest. That market wouldn’t exist without lower priced separates.
Hiya, Bit off topic but could I ask roughly what dimensions your listening room is?
For SL2s aren’t they the same as MkII SBLs? Just find a sacrifial set?
@ewencummins thank you and to also Richard for his post. This I did not know this and possibly a good way if needed to source mid/bass drivers for SL2
The main mid/bass drivers are the same on both late SBLs and SL2s.
It was also used in the Credo and the Allae, albeit not specially selected or matched as closely.
Probably already been requested/wished for but a nice power block/strip especially as Chord have just made one!
I think Naim should introduce a streamer with no Dac. There are many good Dacs that people have. For example i use a Questyle CMA 15 which attached through spdf/dc1 to the Naim Core is just fabulous. But for now to stream external services i am stuck with bluetooth and Apple hasn’t upgraded the ability of the ipad/iphone to support new no compression bluetooth codecs. So i am just using spotify. I would love either for Apple to get their act together, or conversely and even better for a well priced streamer only box from Naim that i could use for Quoboz.
Oh…it must do well usb out. I am already using the sdif connection from the Core…i want the Questyle to be driven from the streamer with usb.
Yep - streamer without DAC would be good, but would no doubt mean a standalone Naim DAC to complement would need to be released too
Not sure about that. If you want a streamer and dac from Naim they already have a nice book of selections for you. No need to do it in two boxes. My thought is a different target buyer. Someone who has an excellent dac already and wants a top class streamer for external sources (particularly native qobuz). It would be great in a Uniti frame that matches the Core.
If you used a (Naim) streamer you would no longer need an SPDIF input for the Core, as it’s a UPnP server so you would be able to use the network connection which it needs in any case. Naim have always believed that electrical SPDIF is the optimum connection for their boxes, in preference to optical or USB.
Regarding standalone streamers, my view is that the existing models do a good job as digital transports. DAC chips are pretty inexpensive, and removing one from a Naim streamer wouldn’t save that much cash. Add to that the additional cost of developing, certification, marketing, manufacturing and distribution of an additional range and it might even push the cost higher.
Besides, until they can develop another standalone DAC or two there is absolutely no business case for doing a separate streamer, although I imagine Chord might be quite pleased if they did.
I want to use the sdif connection from Core to DAC because of the sound quality.
It does seem to me there is a business case … people who have bought nice dacs and run them from their computer and want something better. But you may be right.
An optional wireless powered speaker to make Mu-So 2 truly stereo
I don’t know if anyones mentioned it but a NAC 272 replacement might be a good idea, just saying.
Not sure about the demand for that - first time I’ve seen it mentioned
Can I add that maybe a change of colour might be nice. Tin grey anyone?
