Worlds Best Hotels

The coverage of England’s trip to Sri Lanka looked as if it had been sponsored by the Galle Tourist Board - super thread

It was nice to see the hotel. Took a pic for my (not at interested as I was!) wife!

…decent location  …and Yorkshire at the crease when I took that picture I see - perfect!

Now that’s a view… Can see the Orcs coming at least.

At the end of a long solo bike tour of the South Island, I arrived bedraggled, exhausted and likely pretty stinky in the lobby of the Hermitage. I was shown great respect and scored a very fine room at the same rate as their very cheapest room because “the cheap rooms are sold out, so it is fair to give you a great room for the same rate”. I was so grateful.

That’s what makes a good hotel a great hotel :+1:t2:

Indeed. Exactly what I thought. The Hermitage at Mt Cook is a grand old dame of the NZ hotel business, and has been through many phases since the first hotel was built in 1884.

Serena Inn in Zanzibar will always be pretty special to me…

High up in the Atlas Mountains of Morocco - Sir Richard Branson owns a small hotel - I think there are 15 rooms and 8 Luxury Tents.

It’s called Kasbah Tamadot - we love it to bits. Not SUPER Luxe, but just wonderfully relaxed and views for days…

A couple of nights a week - weather permitting - they show a film outdoors. It always seems to be “Casablanca” but it’s never any less special!

Just the word “Zanzibar” …it’s so evocative. Looks great.

This was great, too.

Possibly the best Aman Hotel we’ve been to - this is Amanoi in the middle of a nature reserve in central Vietnam :vietnam:

Our experience of Vietnam was utterly wonderful - feels so special, yet on the cusp of huge commercialisation. Somewhere to not wait too long to visit if it’s on the list.

10/10 for view.

0/10 for ability to get a cheese burger at 2am.

Just wonderful though - did you ACTUALLY sleep??

First night I slept like a baby, my partner as well.
Second night was a bit colder, so not as comfy.

We were alone during 3 days :star_struck:
Not a lot of alpinists on Mont Blanc’s south face.

Did you climb Mont Brouillard on the way?

Was the rock very loose?

Many falling rocks in the afternoon?

(Did you ever read Bonatti’s The Mountains of My Life?)

Grand Resort Bad Ragaz in Switzerland. Haven’t stayed there, but it was one of the hotels featured on the BBC Amazing Hotels series.

At Amansara in Cambodia they collect you from the airport in the King of Cambodia’s old car.

The hotel is in the grounds on the Angkor Wat temple complex in Siem Reap :cambodia:

…the building was originally built by the King in the 60s, and was used as the Kings guesthouse for visitors to the temples.

It’s now a lovely small hotel. They have exclusive access to the Temple Complex - and take you around in vintage Jeeps. I can confirm these aren’t as comfortable as the Kings Mercedes 600!

My word, you’ve stayed at some cracking hotels,
