XS Serial Numbers…sorry!

Thanks, I think I’ve got it, the only thing that causes confusion is the sticker on the box (xs-2) but the 40th anniversary (also my 40th anniversary!) and the 2013 serial number would confirm this is the updated XS2.

What would really put this to bed would be a similar image of the mysterious XS-2…someone must have one!…

You’re in luck!
That was my NAIT XS (Fascia Refreshed) back in 2018 when I still had one, you’ll see the cardboard box shows NAIT XS-2, the rear panel on the NAIT shows NAIT XS, as did the original version of the NAIT XS.
If you compare mine to @kitfit1 NAIT XS2, you’ll also observe that the Headphone jack on the front of mine is a 3.5mm minijack, whilst the NAIT XS2 has a larger 6.35mm jack. So the physical clues are the headphone jack, and the difference in the rear panel model label. You’ll also notice that mine doesn’t have a USB Mini “USB Update” port underneath the Right speaker outputs (instead, it’s where my Serial barcode sticker is located), whereas the NAIT XS2 does have one.

Loving the input! But…the fascia on this isn’t updated! It’s the standard 5 series type not the brushed type on the XS2.

I thought the elusive XS-2 had the updated brushed fascia with XS internals?…I’m still baffled!

It’s just my old and less than optimal photos, I owned an original NAIT XS as well prior to having that one, and the fascias were different between them. The other identifiers I outlined should hold true as well.

Oh ok, I think I can just make out the brushed front on the image, so this is the XS-2 unicorn! And the serial number suggests pre 2013, and there’s no 40th anniversary logo, I think I’ve got it! Thanks for everyone’s input today, it’s been a journey!

I’d love an XS3! But I’m about £600 short of a used one!

I contacted Naim support UK by email about a serial number and I received the answer in less then one hour!!!
Wow, this is a great customer service. You don’t get that often these day.
Cheers Naim team.

That’s impressive, if you’re looking for a bank that does the same, check out Monzo, truly amazing customer service👍🏾

I also have a (spare) Nait XS-2. Bought new in January 2013, built in 2012, with S/N 338XXX. No 40th Anniversary product label on my box. The second generation was introduced in July 2013 and you can imagine how fuming I was for missing out on some extra watts for just a few months… oh well.

In any case, 2013 build doesn’t guarantee that’s it is a 2nd gen Nait XS. You need a photo of the rear side label which will state either XS or XS 2.

Edit: Just for completeness, the NAIT XS doesn’t have a headphone amp. The front 3.5mm jack in an AUX input.

Good catch on the minijack purpose, my less than perfect memory gets fuzzy beyond my archive photos!
I had a few NAIT XS, both the first generation ones and then a NAIT XS 2 (proper 2 not a sort of 2 in the middle version :grinning:)
I added a HiCap DR to mine as well, which I’d been using on a CD5 XS for a while previously. I had a lot of fun from that setup and enjoyed it a lot. I went back to Supernait’s after that and never had a XS3, as long as it’s been looked after and serviced if needed, you’ll have a lot of fun from one as well.

I can imagine how annoying that must of been, that’s what I’m trying to avoid.

It’s sorted now though I think, basically, there was never a rear panel label that said XS-2, they are either XS or XS 2 (no hyphen) so if it says XS 2 on the back it’s an XS2, the XS2 also has the micro USB input I’ve discovered.
