Your Hi-Fi plans for 2025

Interesting, thanks QS. Yes, i’ve seen your lovely LP12 beautifully presented in the System Pics thread. I’ve read more than one comment as to the LP12 being more organic, so I’m curious as to how they will compare.

I have owned two LP12s in the past, and although enjoyable at the time, I thought my Rega Planar 3 wasn’t that far behind them in SQ, so was overall always a bit disappointed. I’m now really curious to hear a modern variant and how Linn have improved the old nail.

I’ve heard the P6 and RP8, and thought neither warranted flexing the credit card to replace my RP6. But, I have heard a Naia (twice) and was somewhat slack jawed at how good it was. I’m expecting a P10 to have a hint of Naia DNA sound wise, and be an improvement over my RP6. Theoretically it is my first choice so here’s hoping. All may change in the dem room though, but if neither satisfy, then I’ll be rethinking options.

Don’t rule out the SME!

I’ve still only heard the Naia running through Rega electronics and didn’t like it. I will stress that I think it was the system being used to play it though and that I think the Naia probably has a lot to give. I’d like to listen to one on a decent Naim system one day…

Recently had a new and used vinyl shop open in our small town…so it’s more and more records. Some streaming too.

What were the Rega electronics? Curious… As i’ve heard a few Rega amps of late… Aethos and Osiris last year and Solis / Mercury recently, and they all sounded beguiling. VERY different to the mid range emphasised drive of Naim, more valve like, which i’m starting to prefer in some ways.

My NUC running ROCK has been going for awhile. If it ever fails I will probably just get a Nucleus One. I have a Mac Mini but only run the Roon controller on it (as well as on my MacBook Air and iPad Pro). Personally I prefer a dedicated appliance for the server (thus NUC with ROCK or Nucleus One).

It was at a Rega launch event at Basically Sound in Norfolk.
I guess they were using the top of the range Amp and Phono so Aethos/Aura I presume. I believe it was through ATC speakers as well, which wouldn’t have worked well for me as I haven’t heard a pair of ATC’s I like.
Fussy bugger ain’t I…

My experience with Aethos and Osiris as well, lovely amps even I stick to Naim upstairs.
Looking forward to Mercury/Solis.

No more boulder 1008?

Was never looking at one, so not me.
Didn’t even know what it was, until i did a quick search.

My impression is that the NUC solution is more reliable in terms of auto updates and never needing ANY attention other than those updates via the Roon app (and the app sends you an update when it’s needed).

I have a Roon Nucleus that must be at least 6 yrs old; it’s been rock solid. (Don’t want to jinx it!!).

Having just moved all my gear to a new dedicated HiFi and AV room, funds wont allow much more expense. But i have my heart set on a Hana ML cartridge to replace my 2m black so lets see how it goes…

I think @frenchrooster confused that with me. I am ordering a Boulder 1108 the day after NYD.

That’s exactly correct. The Nucleus as well as NUCs running ROCK are managed appliances. Roon pushes updates to them that keep them humming and secure. Using a computer otherwise means just running the OS-specific Roon server, and that shares memory and CPU cycles with other services that are unrelated to Roon.

I used to use a NAS for storing my high-res files and couldn’t wait to shut it down. It was an ongoing hassle to babysit it, making sure to keep it up to date with all the security patches.

What attention does Roon need? I run it on a MacBook Pro and it never seems to need any attention, just updates and backup.

That’s what I tried to say – it doesnt need attention other than to click YES to updates.

But your Macbook Pro undoubtedly is rebooted somewhat often as part of its use as other than a Roon server. This is very different from the use case of a dedicated Mac Mini on the network as a Roon server and functioning only as a Roon server (which I think is the proposal to which I was responding!).

You are forgiven :slightly_smiling_face:
Anyway my vitus isn’t going anywhere as it’s too heavy. It was a pain to get it out the rack, then up to the show and back.
Too much of a pain to sell it

Why not add a Vertere DG1s to the audition list?
