Not well at all, Ian. I’m still in the madhouse. I’ve told the staff that I wish to leave very soon, as there are some genuinely deranged people who keep trying to come into my room, and I’m not safe.
(Although a live recording of Rattle conducting Mahler with his new Bavarian muckers is on Radio 3 at the moment, which is balm for the soul.)
Whizzing back on topic, the lovely Rolex Milgauss is keeping great time, and I’m about to order a couple of the signature green glass crystals from Watches of Switzerland, to replace the existing, chipped crystal on the watch, and to have a spare. (The chip is tiny, and hardly noticeable, but I KNOW that it’s there and it annoys me like hell.)
I understand and sympathise with your view, but the Rolex bling is very much down to the case and strap (although some morons must be buying the models with diamonds encrusted on the face, which are truly ghastly, or Rolex wouldn’t sell them).
If you stick to the stainless steel models, you can avoid the bling factor. I think that the Milgauss model that I have is tasteful, and the orange seconds sweep hand is unique. (But I suppose that I would say that!)
No, I haven’t. I’ve been a member of this site for thirty-odd years and have never been able to post a single picture.
And, even if I could do it, my iPhone and iMac are hardly functioning at the moment, as I haven’t been able to back them up for nine or ten months now.
Thanks, Ian. I have no doubt that being confined in this loony bin (with two madwomen who try constantly to get into my room) is causing me enormous mental harm, and probably physical too.
But BUPA don’t give a flying’f%ck, as long as they can siphon £1,600 out of my bank account every week. Bunch of toads, t%rds, call them what you will.
BUPA are thieves really
Mum is 92 a couple of years ago she fell and all they offered was 3 physio sessions up to £500 totalfor the 3…with a £50 excess on each. No recuperation in a BUPA hospital that looks like a hotel in the adverts offered
Hardly great value given she was paying £7000 a year.
I have power of attorney and asked them to email this.
They wouldn’t at first “because our email system isn’t secure”
As politely as I could I pointed out that it blxxdy well should be!
I cancelled the policy!
I don’t understand the process by which I was transferred from an NHS hospital - as an emergency admission - to this private institution, which is committing thefts from my bank account on a weekly basis. Maybe it just suits the NHS to turf me out of their care into a private institution because ‘I can afford it’.
I might look into that at some point, but at the moment all my efforts are directed at getting out of this frigging awful place.
That’s awful and I don’t understand why you are paying at all… I needed a knee op and the nhs sent me to a private hospital for the op and a day in. Private room big tv and a freshly made omelette all free. I’d really query them and wish you all the best for the escape and recovery
I think that the answer is simply because the NHS takes the view that I can afford to pay, so I am fair game…
It is not how I would choose to spend my savings, believe me, but I have, apparently, no clucking choice. So I have to stay here while BUPA helps itself to my savings on a weekly basis.
I heard some suggestion that I may be allowed home next week. But they have now come up with the brilliant idea that I need carers in my home 24 hours a day (i.e. even while I’m asleep). Again, apparently, I have no clucking choice in that either.
If Franz Kafka had written about my situation in a novel, it would be rejected as too silly to be believed!
Not to sure what the rules are in the UK but a patient in the US can sign out of the hospital AMA (against Medical Advice) at any time they wish. The Hospital would have to file a petition with a court to demonstrate you were a harm to yourself or others if they did not want you to leave.
I’ve checked out some of the OLDER Submariners and yes by today’s standards the clasp is rather flimsy. And the bracelet is too, with hollow links. But these are classic watches and for me I’d not let that bother me one bit.
Yes I think it was hollow links as well. You make a fair point about classics. Just at the time it was my first time handling such an iconic watch and I was a little disappointed.
