The tabla master died yesterday. I first came across his work with Shakti, he could pull so much emotion from those drums. RIP maestro
Indeed, a fabulous musician.
Tyler Cowen - an American polymath economist and music lover - eulogized him as maybe the greatest musician in the world. Regardless of the impossibility of âbestâ rankings, anyone who could be in such a conversation is, or was, in rare air.
His record with Bèla Fleck, Edgar Meyer and flautist Rakesh Chaurasia sums his music up perfectly for me I was going to post a single track from it to best celebrate his musical career but couldnât decide on one as theyâre all excellent.
RIP
Oh no, saw him a long time a go, a rhythm genius RIP
Martin
Saw him with âRemember Shaktiâ years ago. Sad to hear of this - RIP.
Saw him in the 50 th anniversary ECM concert in the 80âs. And with John Mc Laughlin at the end of the 80âs.
Memorable moments.
He and his dad Ustaad Alla Rakha brought the tabla to the front of the stage and inspired others.
