222/250/NPX300 vs Series 300

Only one data point, but when I demo’d NDX 2 into 332/250 at my dealer’s it did sound somewhat odd. I never got to the bottom as to why, but I dropped the NDX 2 from my short list after that. So my advice (as always) is to demo before purchase, even if that can only be at a dealer.

I’ll go out on a limb and say it’s so they can sell more boxes and nothing to do with perceived sonics.

The ND555 sounds sublime in my full 300 series system. So did the NDX2. So did the 333. Different presentations and certainly not an issue with mixing OC and NC over here.

Hi. I gave my contact info to Richard Dane. The choice for me are the 200 series and NPX300 PS or the 332/333/NAP250/NCVTT PHONO and no power supplies.

He shared it with me, I emailed you

Phew! I would have been worried if you couldn’t mix and match SQ and all. Visually I’m really liking the NC so when I do finally upgrade I plan on doing it in steps. By the time I get around to it (I LOVE my current setup) they’ll hopefully be something new to lust after.

I want to do it once and stop there. I will go with the 332/333/250/NVCTT. If we get new racks, next year, I can add a power supply.

I’ve mixed olive and OC in the past and they sounded fine. Not the point of course.

I had a SN3 + HiCap, with NDX2 + XPSdr and switched to 222/250/300 which I much prefer.
I initialy used the XPSdr on the 222 with the special Burndy cable - not quite as good as the 300 so I got the 300 a few months later.

Hi OP, both 200/300 are good, but if you want more of what the 200 gives (already a good system) then 300s for you .
Believe your ears .

A manufacturer who wants to sell more boxes, what a surprise! My point is that naim think the ranges can be successfully used together, (hence the cables) and apparently you do to!

Your profile shows you have - NSC222, 555PS DR, NAP250… so nothing wrong with the sonics combination there!

Can the NVCTT sit atop an NPX300 without a loss in SQ? I’m ordering the Series 300 components, but with my current racks I donot have room for an NPX300 without stacking.

The output from a cartridge is very low, so particularly susceptible to outside electrical interference. That makes the phono stage potentially the most sensitive box to the influence of other electronics nearby. So there’s a risk in stacking it as you propose.

If that is the case, I will not use a power supply until I can change racks. Thanks.

I told my dealer to order a 332,333,250, NVC TT. I will power the phono stage from the 8pin DIN of the 332. I will be using standard Naim cables that come with the series 300. If I change racks next year. I can accommodate the NPX300. Thanks for everyone’s input. I suspect this will be a very significant improvement.

Glad to hear you have made a decision Jaybar, hopefully it all turns out to be a nice upgrade . Did your dealer take your existing gear in on trade, towards the new gear cost at least?

YES and gave me a better than normal trade in. The 332 should give a much better headphone amp.

Great choice. I’m sure you’ll have years of pleasure with that set-up.

I doubt you’ll feel the need for the NPX300.

Congratulations! I look forward to reading about your journey. What an upgrade!
