I’m a little late to the party on this. I did the update to my ND555 this morning after reading positive posts by others. I still did it with some trepidation.
My first impressions? Fantastic. I had found myself limiting my choice of music on 3.11. The sibilance on female vocals and the digital / artificial edge were limiting my listening more and more. Whilst I had got some music to sound great, I was listening less often and for shorter periods of time.
3.12 has in my opinion restored my ND555 to the level I aspired to when I purchased it. Vocals have more body, less glare. Guitar strings sound more realistic. There is a sense of quietness in the background which is quite stunning. Performers seem to be in the room and more importantly, it all sounds like music as opposed to a digital portrayal of music. Organic and free flowing I would say. I’m not great at describing these things but suffice it to say I am a happy bunny! Others have described the change far more eloquently and in far more detail.
Thanks to the guys at Naim who I know have spent so much time and effort to get this right. As far as I am concerned, you have done a great job.
And thanks to a few people on here who have taken up the cause with gusto. @Cohen1263 take a bow! Along with many others of course!
I can now listen to all of my music again. Not just some of it, but all of it. It’s a big thumbs up from me

I have updated yesterday and have been listening now for several hours.
My streaming chain is by using Audirvāna Studio 3.0 almost all the time so my experience with the new firmware up until now is based on that. It gives me the best insight on the difference. Having listened to several different kinds of music I must say that also with Audirvāna there is a positive difference. Vocals are very, very full of character. Bass is different, still not quite sure if I prefer 3.11 bass over 3.12… Jury is still out.
But this evening when I listened to Return to Ommadawn by Mike Oldfield I was moved to great extent by some of my favourite guitar parts. This is a level that I haven’t experienced before and it’s absolutely addictive…

I had the first crash this evening on my ND5XS2. Music stopped and app was disconnected. Restarting app did not help. Only a manual deep sleep (press power button for 3 seconds) helped. I never had a crash with 3.11. I hope the improved SQ does not come with reduced stability.
No problems yet with my ND5 XS 2. But of course I will mention it here if it happens. Fingers crossed that this was a one off for you…
I hope for you and all of us that this was just an odd incident…..
No crashes here (ND5XS2) and I’ve been running 3.12 for weeks now. I’ve been waiting for everyone here to experience what I’ve been experiencing. I can honestly say I get lost in the music now.

I did not update yet and tried, but since the access via IP address, was clearly marked as not secure by the browser, not doubt this has been patched within the security fixes!
Does this affect iOS?

I read that need to use usb to 332 for updates.. wonder is it that important to update 332..

At times I felt like I was a lone wolf banging on HQ’s door asking them to find a way to bring back the analogue sound character of the 3.8’s. 3.12 is now showing up some limitations in 3.11 ( although it clearly has it strengths).
This release in the area of consistent very high level of listenability is pretty close to the gold standard of the 8’s in my opinion. Lots of work went into achieving this so the praise should go to Paul B and the team.
I’m hoping that Barco will be receptive to the conceptual ideas of Steve S for future Streamer designs. If a Statement Streamer is ever released I, like the majority of us, may not be able to fund its purchase but as we’ve seen historically there is always the benefits of trickle down technology.

Consensus seems to be positive on the update.
I have found overtime this isn’t a forum for point scoring or ranting at others you don’t really know - plenty of sites/forums for any keyboard warriors to do their thing.

I have had 3.12 for some time now beta testing and i like it, it builds on 3.11, and is enjoyable to listen to. I can remember the nuisance of having to turn my nd555 off every day to get rid of the high end sibilance. But as to remembering so far back to being able to honestly say 3.8 is better or worse than 3.12, sorry i cannot make that judgement.
It was very interesting when the beta team had a visit to HQ, Paul tweaked software back and forth while we listened. Most of us had immediate preferences, but after going and back and forth a few times, most of us were lost between the versions in a few minutes…..3.8 was a very long time ago.

Work around is to set volume settings in the app to slider, and then perform a restart of your android device, then the issue is gone (at least on my one+ phone that is).
