3.12 Firmware

Welcome to the world of Naim.

We just need @drago to update to 3.12 then draw a line under firmwaregate :slightly_smiling_face:

Joking aside, its good news indeed, really pleased for those who still own a Naim streamer :+1:

Your critical forumnite also just moved to the new version. As @Darkebear was very positive and others as well, I thought I make the step and also start swimming.

I find the above album a great way to test what has changed, while I am not long into it yet. I can initially hear that noise is gone and that more details can be heard - while at the same time musicality is still their. While we also need to realize that some level of lowend noise can contribute to the “character” of the sound. I belief the price of upping the volume is also lower than before. So initially positive impressions, while we also need to see if it’s ok to have less “carachter” long term. Like DB said let’s have it running for quite a while to come up with more conclusions.

It’s clearly a better version than 3.11, but not in the way of getting closer to 3.8 but more on improving on what happened with 3.11

Hi. I bought my Naim Uniti Nova PE just before Christmas last year. I updated from 3.11 to 3.12 last night, but haven’t really had time for critical listening yet. Anyone who want to share their first impressions of 3.12 with that particular uniti product?

@drago I think that you are afraid that if you like fw 3.12 your raison d’etre will be gone

You know my system. I jumped in and did update after a few well respected members

gave thumbs up. Better than 3.11 IMHO

Come on Drago do it. You know you should

I did upgrade my NDX 2 to the 3.12 version this morning and the first album I am playing Viktor Krauss’s ‘Far From Enough’ is sounding sublime.

The update process itself was press a button and wait for it to finish.

easy peasy, lemon squeezey, pretty much idiot proof… just what I need.

I hope @drago is happy…

He is very particular. I think it will be. The new firmware is a good upgrade on 3.11, which was pretty good.

Just seeing how things bed into my system after initial euphoria right now.

These things need space and time. My initial impressions are wonderful! It’s not 3.8 and is more digitised, more hifi.

However, I think Naim have done an amazing job. Thes things are really difficult to iron out.

You used a good word to describe it, it’s more hifi indeed. And very much into to face and foot tapping. I reserve my full opinion after much more listening, but it seems an upgrade with mostly positive effects.

I updated my Naim NDSX2 streamer and now when I turn it on the volume knob turns by itself. Never happened before doesn’t happen with any other input. Records play fine with my Naim XS3 amp.

Changed batteries on the remote also.

Anyone got any ideas?

Can put it very loud - but does it sound too clean and sophisticated with 3.12 ? , let’s see….

100% since the early days of the new firmware impacting SQ, I prefer if nothing changed, but seems that is nigh impossible, even though Naim try hard, but every update becomes a marmite moment.

I do think there must be an opportunity for Naim to build on the software updates, beyond mandatory and bug fixes, to maybe offering different sound signatures, maybe even bespoke, all at a price though.

Or we could just break back to mega graphic equaliser stack

Thanks Naim, nicely done. Happy to see that I can now pause/start radio streams from presets without having to open the station screen to do so. :+1:

Wow.. what an incredible improvement in SQ.!!

Before I upgraded to 3.12 FW( last night ) I preferred my NDX 2 bare without my stored away XPSDR.

Today using the Tidal app via (Tidal connect) I can honestly say without a shadow of doubt that the 3.12 fw has transformed the sound of my system beyond my wildest dreams!!

Not only that, it’s had also improved how the XPSDR performs too!! (I now think it’s a keeper)

The PRAT emanating from my humble Royd Minstrels speakers is truly phenomenal… a veil has been lifted.

All I can say is well done team Naim, you’ve pulled it out of the bag with this FW update :+1:

I wonder which streamer or streaming bridge Naim used as a sonic template when they tuned the 3.12 firmware.

I guess for 95% of the music the new firmware works very well, however for the most brutal music I miss a bit visceral impact / rawness (was most probably the noise). Let it sink in further…, no final opinion….

Evening everyone, just to let you know that we’ve got the Android volume issue fixed, and have now submitted it to the Play store for approval.

Unfortunately, the approval time with the store at the moment is pretty long (it’s been taking the best part of a week lately), but fingers crossed for a quick one.

Not affected me but well done Paul to you and your team for getting on this so quickly. I’m guessing it’s been something of a pita!

Any body else having issues Atom HE via qobuz, qobuz connect on an ipad

Track progress bar seems flaky, doesn’t track finger movements ,kind of all over the place , eventually gives up and defaults back to ipad sound

Any ideas :light_bulb:

For reference , new ipad A16 latest software.

Atom HE on 3.12.0 ( 5738 )

As humble as they may perhaps be where it comes to the price, those Minstrels don’t sound humble. I think they are mighty fine! Whenever my dad decides to let them go I’m going to put my finger up…
