Having updated my Unitilite (which isn’t in use at the moment) and two SuperUnitis which are in use but were on 4.7 before, I finally got round to doing the 272 in the sitting room. This was still on 4.6 and listening to it after the update to 4.8 I think it is altogether more enjoyable to listen to.
So for anyone with a 272 still on 4.6, I would say it’s really worth giving the 4.8 update a go, just from a SQ point of view.
I updated my NAC272 from 4.7 to 4.8 a week ago. Thanks Naim for providing an update to a product that is no longer in production. I like the way it sounds now even more than I liked the way it sounded before. I had a Tidal trial when I was on 4.7 but was not convinced CD quality lived up to that claim, perhaps I will try it again.
Have you used a data compatible usb cable? If it is power only cable it won’t make connection also you installed the latest driver firmware as recommended in the installation guide
No, but I’m cancelling my Tidal subscription tomorrow because they will in due course offer me a 30% discount incentive for rejoining. I did try to email them but apparently they do not reward loyalty
So I have a Muso 1, UnitiQute2 and NAC-N272. All upgrades went ok. UnitiQute needed logout of Tidal and logging back in again otherwise the front display would simply read ‘Can’t play, skipped track’. The 272 wouldn’t play anything on Tidal - tracks would load on the app, but nothing would play. Reinstalling the 4.8 firmware, and logout/login of tidal was performed and now all is good. I can hear an improvement too on both the UQ2 and 272, it’s cleaner and more coherent and I’d characterise it as the sort of improvement you’d get if you turned sample rate conversion off, for those that have fettled pro audio systems.
ND5XS often crashing after installing 4.8 firmware
Hi Richard and all
I installed on my ND5XS last firmware, previous version installed was 4.7, when I change from one album to another in PNP or move from PNP to Tidal it happens that the streamer does not work anymore, does not answer to play and pause, only way out is to shut down the streamer and re start. This never happened before the firmware installation. Any suggestion?
Does the firmare supposedly improve the dac section or the streaming part?
I suppose the latter according to official info. in that case what about local streaming?
Only the streaming part.
Apart from web streaming such as the new Tidal service some changes to the ‘voicing’ has improved local streaming.
… I believe the DAC is all fixed hardware.
Ciao again Antonio, no the DSP is not related to DAC.
The digital signal path after the streamer & micro controller modules is to DSP then to the master clocking system & then to DAC
