As long as you know you are higher than firmware version 3.0, for example by looking in the app, you can press on and do the updates quite safely without the screens.
Something to know is that the update keeps going for up to a minute after the PC shows it’s done.
Listening to some favourite tracks now. The sound is not worse, it’s sure. It was my only fear. I feel, but it’s only a feeling, that the sound is a bit better balanced, free flowing and with a bit improved clarity.
Anyway a blind test is impossible
No I don’t think there is a way to do it with an iPad, unless someone knows how you can run the updater inside an emulator. But that’s all out there, as it were. Maybe if it’s a recent iPad Pro….
NDX - tested v4.8 with various well known album tracks & iRadio. Yes the SQ does seem better, but as always YMMV, I sense more detail & definition, maybe better stereo sound stage.
As the instructions required the old installer to be uninstalled before installing the new one, I made the decision to also zap the old best/favourite firmware versions I’d kept from beta testing. So no going back for me, I’m happy with v4.8, end of.
Re the COM port number, I’ve no idea how you can get a choice with this, my only choice is COM3.
For COM I tried the 4 then the 5, my pc said it doesn’t work. Then choosed the 3 and it worked.
What does it mean “ the old installer to be uninstalled “ ? I didn’t do that.
I think you talk about different models from mine. I have an Atom. Is it possible to do with the Atom what you say? or it was my mistake to suppose we were talking about the same thing. Thanks

Oh no sorry. I was talking about the legacy streamers, which is what this thread is about. You can’t roll back with the new platform streamers like Atom.
