500 Series vs. Statement?

Hi Mitch, lucky you! I just borrowed and installed a full Luna cable loom in my Shindo based system and it was a major upgrade. The loom was a mix of Red and Orange, power, ic and speaker. I am impressed! Sound wise: clear, quiet, vivid, a bit forward and musical. I ordered a mix of Orange and Mauve. Will test the speaker cables in my Naim system.

Glad to hear you love the Lunas too. I found that each time you moved up the ladder within Lunaworld, there was a tremendous improvement.

I’m curious. Where/how did you find out about Luna Cables?

Read the Art Dudley’s (my hero) review in Stereophile some time ago, then my dealer became importer (Audioconcept in Stockholm Sweden).

Yes, Art was reviewing a lot of Shindo gear. I once was tempted to buy the Masseto, because my dealer has tested it with Naim at that time, with very good results.
But finally France didn’t authorised Shindo importing anymore, due to some forbidden components here. Curious.
I bought the Ear 912 instead.

I agree. Dudley is very good. He has also given excellent reviews to Grandinote equipment, both electronics and speakers. I use the Grandinote Mach 36’s. I’ve never heard anything sound better.

Forbidden components??? That is very strange, indeed. I cannot imagine what would be in Japanese hi-fi equipment which would be forbidden in France.

I was surprised too. It’s what a dealer said to me. The reason he had to stop selling Shindo here in France. It was 10 years, I don’t remember of what components he was talking ( inside the Shindo boxes).

I just searched on google. There is the “Rohs “ law in France which doesn’t authorise the importation of lead. ( plomb in french).

I remember it was a bit of press at the time, the very nice importer, Keith Aschenbrenner, was fraimed, and Shindo banned in EU. I bought my Monbrisson and Montrachet used…wonderful sounding!

Since acquiring my Luna cables, I have become good friends with Danny Labrecque, a co-owner and the guy who actually hand makes all their cables. If you ever wanted to consider an upgrade I am sure Danny would be happy to speak directly with you to address all questions. I’m sure I could help facilitate that conversation, if you so desired.

RoHS as frenchrooster found,

Found some discussions online, cadmium (correction: actually lead indeed) in the solder was apparently the issue. But the whole thing may have been resolved as found some reports about Shindo units coming with a CE sticker (though that may not say anything about RoHS compliance)

Thanks! I will consider this. But when I tested my loaners I agree with Art that there maybe a limit to how “vivid” you want to go…also the Mauve PC is to stiff for me, the Rouge IC are lovely though…Black out of reach financially…

Not sure how “too vivid” would be a problem. I would think, mo’ vivid, mo’ better! LOL. I agree that the mauve PC is annoyingly stiff, but it does make everything better. Anyway, If I can ever be of help, don’t hesitate to reach out to me at pennpalmitchatgmaildotcom. I’m fine with my email address being posted here.

Nice setup, but try Pass Lab with your speakers! :ok_hand:

@Bjorn

Let me see if I have this right…

On this Naim Forum, you are suggesting I swap my 500 Series/Statement Naim gear for Pass Lap because you think that would be a better match with my Grandinote speakers? I hope you don’t really mean that, but I REALLY hope, considering the investment I’ve made with Naim, that it could not possibly even be close in audiophile satisfaction. LOL

It reminds me of someone (on this forum) said his ~$4K LFD int amp beat a $200K amplifier (I think this claim implicitly aimed at Naim Statement).

He might have been right but a Nait 2 would have made them both sound broken :joy:
(Apologies to @anon4489532 for the cheesy cliche)

Best, BF

I am starting to think the same. I just finished putting together my newly restored Nait 2/ProAc SuperTablettes 1988/Chord Qutest system.
Time to sell my 552/500 system

LOL I already sold mine AND canceled my order for the Statement. Eternal gratitude to Bluesfan!
