500 v 2x300 active?

Black doesn’t really suit them in my eyes, and makes them look even bigger, i think tim the side profile is going to be the biggest stumbling block for the wife, as they aren’t the prettiest from the side, but i dont mind them, but i guess my wife would think they are horrible

I suppose it keeps them from getting marks on them until finally positioned.

Or stops them getting scratched when the apemen start throwing bones in the air…

My wife won’t like that about them - but I think she will at least like that you can run with the grilles on so the “round things” aren’t showing

Well, we’ll see. I keep looking from the side at the SL2s and they are pretty tiny from the side, but it’s a big enough room so hopefully they won’t dominate.

Between the piano and the right speaker there is some pretty dead space that I have already raised the possibility of filling with a rack / cabinet to hold records (someone linked to one in here recently but forgotten what / where). That could be made to fit with my wife’s ideal (painted wood with an oak top) and block some of the view

I’m going to have to start a new thread 808 Titans for when they arrive…

‘Tis possible to sneak in the odd black box, especially if is an upgrade to a same-sized box, not that I would ever be so underhand, but speakers require a ‘frank exchange of ideas’.

In the end, domestic harmony will (and should) win out.

She took it very well this morning (which may count for naught when she sees them ) when I opened with the “I am possibly going to be getting rid of some of the black boxes to finance some potential new speakers”. Had t try to explain how it would still work with half as many boxes. Ahem

She did ask how big the new speakers were so hope she doesn’t focus too much on the added depth which I may have been vague on. 1.5 inches taller and 2 inches wider are ok :+1:

Darn, thought my none too subtle suggestion on another thread had persuaded you to compare 500dr passive with 300dr active. Still the way to go for harmony on both the musical and domestic front. You won’t get less obtrusive or prettier speakers than your SL2s. Still worth a punt if you can get a loan from your dealer? And you’d be doing the public (me) a service.

@TimOopNorth … if it was me I’d look at D’agostino Preamp and Stereo power amp. Magico S5 and DCS Front end. A lot less boxes and lots more SQ ! Just my opinion, I could be wrong :smirk:

Yep Tim, all you would need to do is sell the house and set up that system in the garage!

I expect your other half might possibly have an issue living in the garage though.

He already lives in a Barn

Thanks for the suggestion but that would mean changing everything. Not convinced by the magico looks. Am sticking with what I know I like and looking to see if 808s with a single 300 beat SL2s active

Depends what the new greenhouse is like?

You’d really, really, hope that a £25,000 pair of speakers would be better than your SL2s. Is a 500 a possibility were you to get them?

How on earth does living in the garage solve anything? :man_shrugging: That’s got the cinema room in already anyway

Yes but not immediately

Yes I would of course hope they are considerably better but speakers are such a personal thing - and everyone keeps banging on about listening at home

If it stand next to them a considerable proportion will be hidden from view

Ok what about ProAc K3 in Ebony?

Unfortunately…my wife can count boxes over time better than myself. But thankfully she is a very understanding wife…having a quick break in Norfolk as a treat in half term, she still works.

Because you would have to sell the house to afford the system opus was suggesting.
