500 v 2x300 active?

A shame you don’t have Superlumina XLRs yet. Even the SL2s show how much they hold the 500 back. You should definitely hear an uplift when you do get them. Can’t they be couriered out to you?

The SL din to XLRs are very very good and finish things off nicely. Our friend @RackKit has mine now. Why not buy some from your dealer and ask them to arrange with Naim to send them direct to your house?

Thanks for running them in for me HH!:+1:t5:

You are most welcome. At least with an integrated amp there are fewer wires to worry about.

As long as you are enjoying your music tim what does it matter? I sometimes think that moving up in the hifi game, can actually be bad for some, as it brings the what if, is it good, out, that just wasn’t there before. I have also been down this road and its very easy to keep on wanting the next thing, to try and drag that 1% extra gain that we hope it will bring.
But for me i am glad that right now, there’s nothing that is tempting me, i am very happy with what i have and feel lucky to have what i have, i would just sit back and try and just enjoy it, rather than try and compare, as i feel this will only end in regret and want, as for sure you will easy find something that you feel is better and want

Hi Tim, they were easily the set of cables in the SL loom, which took the longest to run in. ATB Peter

Well I am not in a rush to spend yet more money on the hifi. January (aka tax month) was a bit painful financially - not only a load of tax but new oven range ordered and a new sofa. And Helen has plans for two more new sofas :man_shrugging: But if the xlrs make as much of a difference as everyone says… I will find a way

Yep tell me about it, business tax bill end of December and personal end of jan, the things i could have purchased with that, errrrr.
For sure the xlr’s will be good, made a big difference on my 500dr, so much so it just makes you think, why supply cables like this, it hampers it so much and this on a very expensive bit of kit

How’s the Orangerie coming on Tim? :joy:

Hi Tim,
Have you finalized speaker placement or still tinkering?

Pete said the same thing about the standard xlrs - cannot understand why Naim use something so cheap as standard. Anyway I will look forward to hearing how they turn out, but there is already plenty of improvement to hear from the outrageous sums I have spent already

Not sure. I haven’t moved them at all - Pete has done that each time so far. The boom has diminished with various things like speaker cable changes as well as moving the speakers themselves so there is a chance the xlrs will make a difference (don’t ask me how - but I would not have believed the SL speaker cables could reduce the boom - but they did)

Tim, during my recent listening room change kerfuffle I found the only things that lessened bass boom was moving speakers further away from the front and side walls, moving the listening position to a ‘hot spot’ away from the back wall and properly spiking speakers so they have zero rocking.

Putting home made bungs made of rolled up internal speaker wadding in the rear speaker ports, to replace the supplied foam bungs, also helped reduce bass boom and maintain the lovely mids and high frequency presence. I know the Titans have the specially designed slot port so playing with that is not possible.

As the 808s must be pigs to move, best wait to see if the SL cables fix the last bit of bass boom.

If you have Qobuz a great test track for bass performance is the title track of the Flight Of The Cosmic Hippo album (the first of the two title tracks of the same name) by Bela Fleck and the Flecktones. If your system and room can handle this track without falling apart in the bass, you don’t have too much to worry about in my experience.

I must admit I still have a slight residual bass reverberation on certain albums with certain plucked double bass lines, but not enough in general to be of any trouble. It is due to standing waves (comb filters) in my new, squarish listening room, and possibly can only be fully fixed with some room treatment, and I am not going there.

I wasn’t sure what expect when tried the SL speaker cable after using NAC A5 for years but they were/are great. They opened the sound out and seemed to increase the SL2s range but the bass was clearer along with the treble if that makes any sense?

Geoff had said the SL XLRs on the 500 would be the icing on the cake and he wasn’t wrong.

I think you’ll enjoy what they’ll do on your system. After that, there shouldn’t be anything left to ponder over as that’s mighty set up you’ll have.

If you’re still not happy after all that, I’d suggest some kind of therapy!:grinning:

The did not for me… I borrowed an ex dem set and was very disappointed. For me the Morgana was instantly far far better…its very strange…Gaza reported the same thing.

Thanks. Am not going to buy without trying. I did have a spell in November I think it was where I didn’t think the 808s were going to stay - so am not pretty judging either way

Hi Nigel. Tried that and the other track recommended on your own thread, and no problems at all here with them. I think there must be a particular frequency that I have a problem with - though the 500 and 808s are still running in I think so things are still changing
