EBay is showing a 552 (with DR PS from 2013) for a remarkable £5750. I have asked for serial numbers, but am still missing something obvious?
It looks as if the ‘normal’ s/h price has fallen to well under £10k for an unserviced DR pair, which already looks fairly compelling, but this looks ‘too good to be true’.
Nope , the 552 is brilliant, the offspring of the 282 and the 252. Just sat listening to thanks for the dance, Leonard Cohen and loving it. The main reason I told myself for buying a 552 was the detail is still there even at low volume levels. Soundstage is also far wider than my old 252 which I loved.
If you pull the trigger you won’t be disappointed .
There have been a few moody high end audio products on eBay lately. Some ATC50’s (same pair twice) and a an ND555 - all looked legitimate apart from the price. I reported them and they were removed.
Things with pricing like that usually are… It might be genuine, but would need a lot of verification, particularly that it’s not stolen, not fake, and that any handover of money only happens when you have the item in your hands and are physically safe.
I would want to hear it playing before parting with my cash.
Even so caution is advised and I would want to see documentation about the history, receipts etc.
Personally I only pay through PayPal and you can use googles image search to do a quick check it’s not full proof but I’d be interested to know if past identical listings pop up.
Put simply, if you can afford to “right-off” the monies, in the event that it is not the bargain it purports to be, then ok. Protections are all very well, if any adjudication goes in your favour.
Wise not to rely on opinions of well meaning peps, in regard to financial protection; make your own financial enquiries. Some credit and debit card issuers are known to be cautious about issues which arise from transactions which involve multiple parties.
If as you believe Nick, prices are dropping and you are interested in a similar unit, try an email round robin to a number of dealers. The whole market for almost all manufacturers and retailers, is far from buoyant. An established dealer, even via the auction house, will at least provide peace of mind. While some dealers use it, others do their trades in-house.
The golden rule “caveat emptor” exists - a wise person never deviates from it.

Had a look at this. Checking the Sellers feedback is a good indicator, but on this occasion there is none and they’ve been on there since 2015; interesting.
