Advice for sensitive speakers and low volume (reduce output NDX2)?

Hi all

I would like to use my volume of my NAC252 to in the halfway position in stead of 2-10% position (see this article for for background). My speakers seem very sensitive and to play at normal level ± 70 db the volume button needs to be very low (and the balance off centre) to listen normal volume

I have the following set up:
System (all recent): NDX-2, NAC 252 (+supercap), Naim 250DR , Nordost cable (5y old), Monitor audio gold 200 (5y old).

So I guess, as the NAC252 is technically an attenuator of the signal from the NDX2, is there a way to reduce the output of the NDX2 without sound quality reduction?

Or any other solution?
To be precise:
Aim is to be able to have the volume at 25-50±.

Less sensitive speakers, higher preferred listening and a large room all help, but of course they are things you probably can’t or don’t want to change.
I found this a problem when I had a 282, and what worked for me was to run the streamer through a separate DAC with an adjustable output which in effect attenuated the signal to a level that allowed a sensible range of the preamp volume control to be used. I first did this with a Chord Hugo, and found it to be a nice upgrade to the NDX and NDX2 for not a huge amount of money.

Hi both.

Thanks for the reply and guidance. I will keep the system as is. Via Roon I am able to reduce the output digitally for most of what I am playing
Only for the new radio set-up of Naim this is an “issue”. ( one particular radio station I listen to is not available in Roon at the same bit-rate).

Can you reduce the trim level of the NDX2 in the Naim app like I can with my Nova? … Settings/input settings/ xxxinput/ trim level - where xxxinput is the one to your 252.

You can switch the NDX2 to variable output via the app, but you may find a hit on SQ. it may be worth trying though. If I recall, this isn’t possible if system automation is enabled.
