Hi all having trouble finding the original material is there a more common alternative
Maybe try a craft or sewing/fabric store. I’m sure you can find some polyester fluffy stuff.
If you contact Naim support they may well be able to give you the product details of what to look for.
Naim used goat hair in SL2s.
I guess it was the same in SBL’s? Last time I setup my SBL’s I’m sure it was brown greyish hair which indeed is more goat than sheep.
In the small mid box?
Possibly, but I don’t know for sure, or whether it was changed during the SBL’s life, so best for Naim to confirm. @NeilS may be able to ask Clive if he’s close by…
The foam in the mid box is the same as the Allae - is this the stuff you mean & not the wool in the bottom cabinet?
Regards
Neil.

The spec for the foam is here: Naim allae woofer wrong orientation - #79 by NeilS
I’m afraid I don’t know of a supplier, but a few folks on here have replaced the foam in Allae/SBL/SL2, so presumably it must be available.

Neil.
I’d be loathe to take apart my SBLs but the question has come up a few times over the years and so this is presumably required maintenance at some point. Does it become obvious?
Listening to mine on this Friday evening they continue to sound amazing!
Our SBL’s and IBL’s reside in the gardenhouse and I walked in this afternoon when the children were playing Fortnite. What a sound!
Well I removed my driver and the foam had turned to dust ![]()
Hi Neil. As i’m hoping to service my SBL’s shortly, iv’e done some research & found a company that seems to make the exact foam material ( Reticulated Polyurethane Foam in 80ppi ) for the the mid drive unit enclosures.
If it’s ok with Richard Dane, i would like to post a pdf of the website page to this thread for anyone else who is doing the same with their SBL’s. I’m not sure as to whether they sell directly to customers, but the website has forms for requesting information on the products.
I will contact them tomorrow to find out, & will let you know.
I hope this is ok & helps future restorers.
Hi Richard. Did you manage to get the dimensions of the foam lining for the SBL’s, if so, could you repost them to this thread as i’m in the process of servicing my pair.
Iv’e managed to find a supplier of the correct Reticulated Polyurethane Foam at 80ppi
who i’m going to contact about purchasing from tomorrow.
As my foam is on the way to total disintegration, it would be helpful to know the dimensions to buy & cut to before trying to fit it.
I know you did a post back in 2018, but i can’t find it.
I hope this is ok. Thanks Tim.
Hi Tim,
I have the size specification, I will need to translate it from the drawing in order to share. I will get on to it as soon as I can!
Regards
Neil.
Ok, here is the rough shape of it:
The material thickness is 12.7mm
The bottom horizontal width is 380mm
The top horizontal width is 280mm
The vertical is 190mm
Distance from bottom corners to notch is 130mm
Top of notch is 60mm
Depth of notch is 30mm
Notch angles are 45 degrees
Regards
Neil.
Thanks for that Neil. I’ve just spoken to Ross at ASG ( Advanced Seals & Gaskets) & good the good news is….they will sell directly to customers. I have emailed him the drawing & dimensions you posted, it’s just a matter of waiting for the quote.
I will post it when i have it.
Thanks for your help with this. Kind regards Tim.
