Are the Mogami cables marked with the recommended signal direction?
Another question, are the Mogami cables safe to use with Olive NAC 135s?
FF
Their website lists capacitance (1kHz, 20 degrees C) at 253pF/m and inductance at 0.4µH/m.
So they are high capacitance and maybe not good for older amps.
Wonder what happened to the reels of Spectre cables, was it all sent out what they had, if not a good opportunity for someone to make a a alternative to Phantom, i was sent some and a good uplift from the, anyone know approximately how many was producted.
I use a very good cable called NACA5. It goes so well with the Naim equipment that you’d almost think that it was made for it!
My guess is they never had the money to make the final payment and get the shipment from their manufacturer and then instead finalised few orders with the prototype cable. Given the likely rather big amount of backorders, finalising those would have meant a rather big income for the company.
Its great they list the specs, but having looked into it, thats the conclusion I came to so I am looking at other alternatives.
I find it interesting that we can come to different conclusions on the same products. Having lived with NACA5 for a long time I have come to the conclusion I dont like it any more.
Usual disclaimer applies, my system, my ears my room - your impressions and views may be different It may also be that my tastes/preferences have changed as I have aged.
Agree with this. I couldn’t get NACA5 out of my system quick enough. The bass was full, but that’s about the nicest thing I can say about it. There is no shortage of great options out there for sensible money. I’ve not experienced the Mogami speaker cables, but can’t testify to them making some excellent stuff (I’ve tried a number of their interconnects) so it doesn’t surprise me to hear that the speaker cables are good too. I also have a soft spot for Chord Epic, but I know it’s not to everyone’s taste.
NACA5 is a very good cable notwithstanding its stubbornness in corners, but imo Phantom is better, and Spectre is better again.
I have all three cables here at home and have done back to back testing. Spectres are in my main system (and I can now believe the specs on my SBL’s), and Phantoms in my second system. My NACA5 is in a box.
Best place for it
I’ve been using Phantom since a couple months after I got my 300DR. I always liked it better than the NACA5 it replaced. I suppose I could pull out my NACA 5 after all these years and compare again, but it’s a problem for me now because the NACA5 I have isn’t long enough (7m) to hide behind my record shelves like I do with the Phantom (10m).
I’ll be in the same pickle soon, as I was planning on pre-owned or new WH Phantoms. Probably new to get the right length.
For me, I’ll most likely start with Kudos KS-1s after what I’ve read about them, mostly on this forum. I’m not in a rush though as I will wait till I move house.
Ok an update.
I went to my local dealer for a bit of a cable demo extended session. Unfortunately they dont have any olive or classic naim. Just a Nova or the new 200 and 300 series.
Starting with the nova, we tried Phantom, turillium (spelling?) and Kudos. The Kudos seems to be a lot like Phantom with a bit more detail. Im sat at home now with a demo set, i’ll try the Phantom and NACA5 over the next few days. So far I think I could live with the Kudos.
I also tried out the new classic 200 and 300. The new classic 200 i tried is not a patch on my olive system. The new 300 is very nice indeed as it should be at that level of investment. But not sure Id want to make the move from what I already have - its very different.
My speaker cable upgrade path over the last 20+ years has been Chord Epic Twin → WH Phantom → Kudos KS-1 → WH Spectre.
4 great cables and each step was a significant improvement.
Speakers are Kudos 606
the mysterious Spectre seem to have vanished into thin air - what did it cost?
jeff day at Positive Feedback has a few articles re Duelund Dual DCA12GA, a 12 ft pr/ 4 meter pair is about $150. Tin-plated, Stranded Copper, Oiled Cotton Speaker/Interconnect Cable.
Anyone use Dueland with Naim gear?
From memory I think it was about £145 a metre or about 15% less if ordered on promotion.
KS1 is silver plated but is more expensive than Duelund Dual DCA12GA, given the choice between tin plated and silver plated I’d prefer silver.
Spectre was just plain OCC Copper so maybe un-plated is better.
