Alternative to Phantom speaker cable

I paid £122/metre for my Spectre. No regrets. At all.

It certainly lived up to its name !

I wonder how many pairs of Spectre were actually sent to customers before the company folded. And where is the roll of cable now….

I got mine, so that’s two pairs we know of.

I got mine, they replaced my Phantoms. Pretty awesome to be honest. My advice if some come up for sale bag them.

My understanding is that Phantom was tin plated OF copper, not OCC. Spectre was OCC with no plating.

Sorry I meant Spectre. previous comment edited.

With the Specters not being available now except as pre-owned, I guess you would highly tecommend the KS-1s?
I think a lot of people were planning on Phantoms or Spectres at some point.

Absolutely. KS-1 is an amazing cable and great value for money too.

Which company produced the Phantom cable for Witch Hat?

I did have Spectre on order…

I just found it interesting that Which Hat had done their own research of numerous other cables which I assume possibly included tin and silver plated and maybe even solid or Litz silver and they preferred just OCC Copper.

With regards to the silver cable, I did actually speak to them on the phone and they told me that they’d tried silver so it’s not assume or possibly.

Thanks, good to know from someone who has experienced all the other cables I was considering.

Yes, interesting. I, myself, have always had a healthy respect for OCC copper in cables. I’ve often thought that the wind of the wire was more important than the add-ons to the composition. But hey, what do I know … :slightly_smiling_face:

Cables are very subjective. I’ve heard the KS-1 and although I thought it better than NACA5 I considered it inferior to Phantom.
It’s a pity the Spectre cables failed to appear as those who heard them stated they were superior to all the above.

I’m using TQ Ultra Black II that it’s much more expensive than KS-1 however I’m going to test KS-1 in the next few weeks. I’m looking for something a little bit airy and less bassy. I’m really curious to compare them in my Naim/Kudos 606 system.

It depends on a lot of factors in my room the phantom didn’t work well but I love my ks1 cables.

I had Phantom, tested Spectre but much prefer KS-1. Even though it proved a gateway drug to me buying Kudos T505 ‘speakers lol.

I found the original TQ Ultra Black put way too much bass in my Naim/Kudos system. I switched to KS-1 which although leaner was much more to my liking.

I had though previously enjoyed the TQ with PMC speakers. Shows it isn’t one size fits all.

Thank you very much for your feedback. I like TQ Ultra Black II, voices are amazing but probably not really transparent. More on the warm side. I’m tempted to try something more neutral and KS-1 will come in the next few days.

Same experience here with TQ Ultra Black.
