@anon36006824 Have you compared U588 to 188 and 288?
Are you thinking of making a change @Blackbird ?
It is intriguing to think that all those boxes, Fraim shelves, interconnects and mains cables could be replaced by a single box with one cable that is on a par (or potentially even better) sound quality wise. I’m down to three boxes, which is a happy compromise for me and allows me to keep my hand in the game with Naim ![]()
I agree. I think the argument about separate power supplies is increasingly less and less relevant. Modern electronics and new approaches appear to be allowing manufacturers to achieve similar or better sound quality in today’s integrated solutions versus the separates of the last few decades. I’m very happy with my Selekt as you know, which is far superior SQ wise to the 252, SCDR, NDX2, 555DR combo it replaced. I enjoy a lot of electronic music and the 350s give it the sonic punch it needs to bring this sort of music alive. I’m sure it would be capable without them mind you.
No but I had an I-280 and it was a beautuful unit. I will say that I’m sure the U-188 and U-288 sound great. As you know moving up the ladder gets you a little more of a very good thing with Aavik.
Welcome to the one box club.
The Linn Selekt is a winner.
Go on, you know you want to.

A new test of u588 @ Hifi Advice com
I think that is a good test
Seems like “balanced” is a proper word describing it.
"Timbrally, too, the U-588 ranks among the most neutral amplifiers I’ve heard. Please don’t read that like it is devoid of color or saturation. It renders everything in the recording, whether wooden, metal, string, vocal, or otherwise, just as it is supposed to be. The pacing is also perfect, neither slow nor hurried, but precisely in between, and moving along with the music. Likewise, the U-588 is dynamically very capable, scaling precisely as needed by the music, neither undercutting nor bragging.
As I proceeded to listen to various tracks, I realized that the U-588 has a stealth-like musicality. By this, I mean that amplifiers that are usually found to be “musical” and engaging are typically warm or lush, or in some other way veering from purity or neutrality. With the Aavik, there is simply no added warmth, thickness, or coloration. Nevertheless, it does not devalue the emotion or reduce the warmth embedded in the recordings. In short, it is earthy and neutral, yet natural and musical."
I sold my Kef Reference 3 and will be listening to the
TAD E1tx in conjunction with the u588 next week.
The TAD should outperform my Reference.
I’ll also be getting the Darkz C3W to test
With aavik - instead of chasing power supply upgrades you’ll be chasing ansuz’ power cords and distribution unit upgrades. A2 to C2 to D2…
C2 XLRs installed! Lovely improvement over Atlas.
Ignore the cable vomit, new DAC so a lot of WIP stuff.
Just got my first Ansuz cable - a used X2 Ethernet Cable and replaced my Shunyata Venon cable.
A big improvement in SQ with much more detail and smoothness. Really pleased and now aiming to replace my Chord Epic X speaker cables with Ansuz.
Have Harbeth P3 ESR speakers from Nait 50 amp.
I experienced the same when I started with an X2 Ethernet cable on my Nucleus. I then added some A2 speaker cables and it’s a very pleasing upgrade with lots more clarity and presence to the music. Enjoy!
I’m testing a brand new U-588 as an integrated amp only, just to taste the Pascal D class in the 588 series.
Brutal looking and feeling all-in-one for sure. ![]()
Running in still, I got to say an interesting first day. Bass is so tight, punchy and textured. Lots of resolution and mids coming forward.
I’ll avoid commenting anything further as it needs more run time for an honest review.
Anxious to hear your thoughts whether good or bad.
This is maybe peripherally related to this thread…but I have on long term loan 6 Ansuz Diamond level Darkz footers are meant to be placed under equipment or speakers.
I think retail price is over $500 per single footer!
I have tried them under streamers and DAC so far.
They sometimes make a difference, but in my system that has no other Ansuz products, they are indistinguishable from other footers at 1/5 of their cost.
I have some expensive cables.. But the Ansuz? How the duck do you justify $89000. power cord?
I guess if someone was a Billionaire then spending huge money on cables might make sense although if I was going to buy a full loom and accessories of Ansuz Top Line I think I’d visit their factory and negotiate a deal no way I’d pay retail.
What’s your system if you don’t mind me asking?
What is your definition of expensive in hi-fi? It’s important to nail that. Also, I’m sure you do understand that there are uber expensive hifi components and accessories in hi-fi. So I’m not sure why are you so surprised? You have a general problem with expensive hifi or do you believe AGD produces overpriced products? If latter please elaborate.
